Re: FIOS in Garland, TexasIf it's serviced by SBC, the chances are nill. If it weren't for cable to save the day, you guys would be in a broadband black hole. I have a friend in that neighborhood who has cable service. SBC is totally uninterested in making it broadband serviceable. |

stormspotter - do you have the FIOS service?
Also, did it really take 6-7mos after the conduit was laid? That means FIOS for me in August... Hopefully I can get Video at the same time. |

I'm on Broadway Commons in SE Garland. I just stepped out to go check the mail and to my surprise saw pretty orange spray lines in the grass with a pretty little orange Verizon flag outside my apt building going up to the box. Does this mean what I think/hope it means ?!?!?! =D |

nice one, you were being cautiously optimistic with June in your previous post, looks like they're running ahead of schedule. |

I hope it ends up moving toward us soon then. I'm over at the corner of NE (Firewheel) Parkway and Centerville. As it is, I'm looking at dropping Comcast and trying DSL. The wait continues... |

This is awesome news!!!! Just a few days ago I came home from work at about 9:00 A.M. and there were crews placing orange flags marking the Comcast Cable runs in our neighborhood. Just a few blocks from where I live they have the Fiber to the premises signs posted It shouldn't be to much longer and I can give Comcast the boot Here is a map to show my location: |

Folks,
I am moving to an apt in the next few weeks and was wondering if anyone knows of apt complexes in garland that offer FIOS.
Your help is appreciated. Thanks. |

I live in some apartments at the corner of Shiloh and Campbell area of Garland. I do see signs posted in a neighborhood that is just northwest of me although I do not now how long those signs have been posted. I also am looking for apartments that offer FIOS in Garland but I am afraid that I wont find any. Most complexes these days are sticking to a policy of offering high speed but from companies I have never heard of before. At least the ones I have visited in my area are doing that. I would even be up for renting a house in an area that has FIOS just so I can get the service. What I have now is crap. 1mb download speed (if you are lucky) with a company that has almost zero customer service. Anyway, any news would be good news at this point. |

The apt complex you're talking about is Seven Oaks i think. I ruled them out immediately when they said that they had a contract with "Grande Communications" to provide any type of cable service. They offer only 50 channels, no DVR, no HDTV. The contract runs through 2011.
If you're looking for a Garland apt. complex with FIOS, check Stoneleigh, which is off of Garland Rd near the Super Wal-Mart. I'm not sure how FIOS works for some of these apartments -- they may only offer internet, and no tv service (which is all i cared about, since only fios can offer all HD channels without all the carriage politics that you have with Directv, Dish and Communist Cable). |

Used to have Verizon as my telephone company. When I moved to Garland near Rowlett Rd. and Country Club Rd., Verizon told me that DSL was available. This was back in 2003. Later they told me it wasn't. Found out later that my next door neighbor can get but not me. Stupid Verizon reps couldn't explain why that is the case. Switched to Comcast for telephone and high speed Internet. Have had minimal problems with it other than it is higher priced than Verizon.
Later, Verizon and SBC/ATT have been placing flyers in my mailbox and on my door advertising that DSL in available in my neigbhorhood. When I called, it still wasn't. Guess Verizon doesn't care if they have my business or not! Heard that FIOS will not be available until 2008!! Why are the choices for Internet so limited in Garland? I know people in small towns who have more choices than Garland residents do. It is rather absurd. |

I spoke with a guy in the FIOS department at Verizon. I live near Rowlett Rd. and Country Club just north of I-30. FIOS won't be available in my area until 2008. SOB! |

Garland just isn't that high on Verizon's priority list for whatever reasons... |

Actually, it has more to do with the way Verizon is working through Garland. Many areas of North & West Garland (near Richardson and the Firewheel area) already have or are in process of getting FIOS. They are slowly working toward my neighborhood, which is at Centerville and NE Parkway. Early this year, they were up near 190 & Campbell, now they are much closer and in areas near 78 and the new mall. Looks as though they are slowly working South along the Eastern edge of Garland right now. Sadly, at the rate they are going, 2008 seems likely for FIOS down where you are Ron. I'm in the same boat though, stuck with overpriced Comcast which I got before DSL was available here 5 years ago. My neighbor has DSL, but I've been told our Verizon RT is full and no expansion since FIOS is coming. We're just kinda stuck for now. |

FIOS is available in the Firewheel area now. Please do not let the Verizon operators make you think that they know when it will be available in your Garland neighborhood. I have personal experience that tells me that they do not know what they are talking about. Keep checking, all of Garland will be lit before the end of 08, many coming much sooner. |

I still haven't seen any trucks or laying of any lines. I am just west of Plano Rd on Buckingham on the south side. which is as far west you can get in Garland. Really am looking forward to having Fios. |

Well, they have been working around the Firewheel area this year. Then, a month or so ago, they were in the neighborhoods close to Naaman Forest high school. Now they just in the past couple of weeks are working in the neighborhoods off of Naaman School Rd, near the intersection of Pleasant Valley. They seem to be working along the East edge of Garland right now, at least based on what I see going to/from work everyday. I'm hoping they make it another 1/2 mile to my neighborhood in the next 6 months. |

I dont suppose anybody knows if there is anything other than Charter available in Rockwall? The cable modem is marginally better than dial up. |

FIOS TV is in Garland. I've had it near Jupter & Belt Line for quite some time. |

Yay!!! On Tuesday I had a note on my door saying FIOS was coming, today the signs are up in my neighborhood about the digging and work crews were there on my street this AM. Once done with my area, which buts up to Rowlett Creek, Verizon will basically be done with the most Northeast sections of Garland (near 190), so I'll guess they'll start heading back South or West. |

my guess is west...the south seems to be the most neglected in DFW generally. |

I see around 10 trucks and a Version FiOS sign and they are currently installing FiOS in my neighborhood (Apollo, Arapaho, N. Garland, N. Shiloh area) |

I've been noticing painted sidewalks and streets and a few flags that I can't see since its dark when I get home now. No one at home told me, but I found the Verizon flyer as well as one from Housely Communications. I could have jumped through the roof!!!!!! I'm located in East Garland, south of Hwy 66 and west of Centerville. I never expected them to hit my hood so soon. I will dump this TWC as soon as I can for cheaper, faster internet and more HD. |

Congrats! That's their farthest move south in Garland yet. |
