Qwest says new DSL promotions to start Monday 7-11My question is does anyone know if these promotions will finally lower prices on 1.5 service? I have CC and qwest is just not competitive price wise with CC considering CC speed is 3X what qwest offers. I hope the new promotions are not just about the speed upgrades for more $$. Most people like myself are on RT and cannot go past 1.5. What is needed is a price reduction so that it is competitive with CC offerings. At 30 dollars a month for 1.5 qwest would be more in line with the industry prices and would no doubt attract a ton of CC customers. I guess we will find out next Monday if Qwest decides to become competitive in CC markets. |

I wouldn't get your hopes up. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the exact same promotion again. |

» tabb.qwest.com/PPNB.NSF/ ··· ages.pdfDeluxe 1.5Mbps $19.99/mo for the first 12 months! Premier 7Mbps $29.99/mo for the first 12 months! These prices appear to be only for new connections and it isn't clear whether on not they are including MSN. I assume this is only for the pipe. Even still, these appear to be $9/mo reductions on both products. You also must sign up online in most states to get these prices. Apparently if you already have DSL you can call up say you want to discontinue service and they'll offer to reduce your deluxe price to $26.99/mo for the next free months ($1? whoopee!) or offer an upgrade to Premier for $28.00/mo for the first 3 months. It will be interesting to see if their reps will be willing to give the 12 month rates if we threaten to not only discontinue service, but to switch to Comcast. There is always hope. Prices are effective Sun, July 10. |

Re: Qwest says new DSL promotions to start MondayThat's what I'm talking about. They know there are a bunch of CC users that won't budge until they hit that 30 dollar mark. I can see allot of people dumping CC cable tv in this deal. 12 months is definitely worth taking the plunge. After that, I'll probably jump back on CC since they will probably have a similar deal for new customers. And you only have to be off of CC billing for two or three months to be considered a new customer with CC. I have been a new CC customer three times and the last time I had HSI for 19.99 for 9 months. At 30 bucks, I will gladly take a drop in speed to 1.5 being I am paying 57 dollars for CC HSI with the predatory how dare you not sub to our tv price. This is good news.. whoopy de doo |

You know, if you really want a backup plan (in case they won't give you the discount like new customers), just go to a web site such as buytelco.net , and they usually have a comcast promotion going where you can get 6 months for 19.99 as long as you have some sort of cable (I first signed up for 'local basic' for $10 a month)....often they have bonuses, too...I got $75 of gift certificates at amazon.com......so, if you're a bit short on money, you can always play the deals back and forth...as it seems most deals are aimed at new customers rather than retaining customers (do they think we don't look at the bill?) |

Re: Qwest says new DSL promotions to start Monday 7-11I've been a Qwest/US West customer since 1991 (14 years), and I've always payed on time and what not. I'm gonna try to get the 3-5mb speed for $30 for a year, since I'm a good customer, and deserve it. Can't hurt to try. |

I got an add in the mail for this a week ago or so. I called QWest the other day because I was having so many problems with my cable modem. I talked with Brian in Phoenix and he was the most helpful rep I've ever talked with at a utility. I thought I was going to have to pull teeth to get this deal, but no problems at all. It's totally legit - $19.99 for 12 months including the modem for 1.5/867 and it includes MSN. After 12 months it goes to $40 plus modem purchase or rental. As far as I know there isn't a contract period to sign up for. The only catch is that you need to sign up for a $26 local phone package that includes the line and 3 services. The best deal for broadband that I've seen in AZ. |

Following through on this, I connected to the Qwest online (chat) service rep and signed up for 3mbs DSL with Qwest.net basic ISP service-no email or webspace for $37.99 a month. Since I had just cancelled a slower connection, I have the Actiontec modem and my house has already been set up for DSL with a filter in the demarc box and one outlet clear for DSL. They said my order was scheduled to be live by 7:00PM on July 18. While this is not as fast as Cox, it is fast enough for both my business and personal use.
I signed up for Cox Premier, and have never gotten the stated speeds down. A tech was at my home yesterday (he really didn't have a clue-was on the phone continuously to his office), and said that the signal at the pedestal was low. But I am uncertain as to what he was going to do since he was incomprehensibly inarticulate.
As I said in an earlier review of Cox, I will drop them in a heart beat if Qwest gives me 3000 or better download speed. If this is good, the speed is acceptable, I can get fixed IPs for a reasonable monthly fee and do all that I want to do. My experience with Qwest DSL tech support over the past year was very positive. Experience with Cox tech support continues to be monumentally frustrating.:D |

If it does include ISP and modem rental, that is one heck of a deal. Glad they decided to move beyond those two-month savings promotions. |

Unless I missed it, I don't think that PDF file said anything about a phone package needed, but for some reason I have to assume the $19.95 is w/ a phone package. |

According to the Qwest rep that I talked to in the chat window, Qwest will update web site with new promo on Monday. So we don't have long to wait to see all the details. But if 19.95 is the promo price, It will be a real savings from my 57.00 HSI bill from Comcast. At that price I can definitely live with 1.5 mb speed. If I recall, all the msn promos that Qwest has had in the past all require phone bundling with extra services. I am sure this will be no different. But in the past, one had that option to opt out of the extra services and pay higher for the DSL. Usually opting out of the extra phone services is cheaper then the lower DSL price. At least it was in the past. Hopefully Qwest will allow us to decide if we need those services or not. Personally, I don't care for those services. |

K, so 3-5mb dsl with Qwest.net basic will be $40 in total for 12 months. 1.5mb is $30 for 12 months. 256k is the same $25. Modem rental is free for 12 months, and the pricing is different if you want MSN as your ISP. So yeah, that's about it. yay. I want this deal, they should offer it to current customers too, its not fair. |

If you hit the order button, I get this: $19.99 a month for the first 12 months ($24.99 a month without a qualifying home phone package). Thereafter, $39.99 a month ($44.99 a month without a qualifying home phone package).
Rent a wireless-ready modem for free for 12 months therafter $5 a month, or purchase for $59.99.
This makes sense. To qualify, you normally have to have three services like call waiting, calling ID, call forwarding etc... which will cost more then just paying the 24.99 price. However, if you already like and need extra phone services, then you get the 19.99 price. Looks like I will be going for the 24.99 price myself. With the free modem rental for a year, this is a sweet deal for new customers. I am definitely jumping on this one.
That 31.99 price looks like part of the 256/256 offer. Its costs more then the 1.5: $26.99 a month with a qualifying home phone package ($31.99 a month without a qualifying home phone package).
Rent a wireless-ready modem for free for 3 months therafter $5 a month, or purchase for $59.99.
Even makes you rent the modem.. Nobody in their right mind will order the 256 service now.
Comcast is going to be sweating beads over this one in the mountain states. This is for new customers so all the HSI people like myself who are also paying the predatory penalty for no CC TV are going to take this offer seriously and I would gather many will act on it. Even CC rumored speed jump to 6 megabits probably won't stop people from saving 30 bucks off their broadband. Thats 360 dollars savings in a year. |

I just ordered online. The online form automatically checked my account to see if I had a qualifying phone package which I did not. So my cost is 24.99 which includes MSN premium. Free modem, free activation for 12 months. They do charge 9.99 for shipping and handling for modem. After you order it shows all phone and dsl services that your account has. My total phone/dsl package per month is 50.48 which includes line backer and 15 cents long distance.. ( i use phone cards for Long distance). Since I already have automatic billing from my checking this will be really easy and convenient. I have been waiting for Qwest to do something like this for awhile. Can't wait to call comcrap up and cancel their HSI with their predatory how dare you not sub to our crappy analog TV service price. Oh yes, the estimated start date is July 14. That is pretty quick. They better ship that modem tomorrow to meet that deadline. I figure this offer is going to be extremely popular and thats why I wanted to jump on it right away. I expect qwest will be swamped with orders and start dates could very well be pushed forward. I am assuming that a truck roll will be necessary to activate my dslam. I just had a new line placed to my house so I am hoping for a strong connection. |

Well, I don't know about you, but I'm going to call them in the morning and fib about "Adelphia's great deal in my neighborhood" just to see what deal I can get. (As I've rambled about before, we can't even get cable. But don't tell Qwest. ) I'll post the results of this experiment. |

I just got off the phone and the reps are still totally clueless about the new promo's. The first time I called I got put on hold for about 15 minutes while the rep went to find out the details. They cut me off.
I called again and got a different rep. He put me on hold for about 5 minutes and came back and said that the promotion was only for new customers and MSN was required. I threatened to cancel my service and go with Comcast and got put on hold so he could see what he could do. He offered me $10 off bundled services if I stayed. It took the tard about 15min to add everything up and after taxes and into total he was able to knock about $15/mo off my DSL/phone/long distance bill.
I will be leaving Qwest.net for MSN. I hate Microsoft but the rep claimed MSN was just Qwest.net with an additional MSN account that I never have to use if I don't want to. I will also be giving up the ability to get static IP's but dynamic DNS has been working great so that isn't too much of a loss.
This wasn't exactly what I was looking for and I still feel like I'm being ripped off. I'll wait for these changes to take effect (July 14th) and call and complain again. |

No love for stand alone.. they say the promo requires a phone line, which h raises the price so much that you don't save any money. What a bitch On the other hand, if you NEED phone service you're getting a helluva deal.. EDIT: I got around the whole stand alone thing I guess.. I cancelled the service that was under my gf's name and reordered under mine. I'm getting 7Mbit/896Kbit for 32.99/month, or so I was told. I guess we'll see on the bill. |
