Bajadoc posted : OK, my friend lives next door.
His dish size is .74m
We are in south Baja, roughly at 109 lat /23long.
So what ever works for me should work for him. Also, I use vonage, and if I'm not mistaken that only works with some "birds". Satmex5 is the best choice I think.
I have disassemled and assembled my setup numerous times, so I think we can set up his system, but needed to know the routine of getting SAN and PIN numbers, and then commissioning.
I know of another neighbor who ordered his system in US, had installer set up his account, and commission it on an already pointed antenna. The antenna was never unboxed till it got to Baja and was set there. Then using dbirdman's little utility, the GPS co-ordinates were changed, and "voila" it worked.

Can't think of any other variables, grogreg.

Bajadoc
--
SRS; DW600 CE; Compaq2800;WINXP; loc-Southern Baja;Sat 117; Tpdr 1130

Bajadoc posted : Everyone in Southern Baja(just north of Cabos) is using Satmex5, as it is the only one that works without problems. My system was set up by a Mexican who had a California installer's licence. He did the comissioning for me. Haven't heard from him or about him for a while. I must say that he did a fine job. My system has been up for 3 years with no problem, and the switch from 4000-6000 was a snap.
Thanks again for all the input here.
I called Dway to-day and told them that my friend purchased an e-bay system and asked what he needed to do to get set up. They said to call billing, open an account, and they would supply a code. Then the installer could aim the dish and commission it with that code, whereever it was installed. Am I missing something? Seems fairly straight forward.
--
SRS; DW600 CE; Compaq2800;WINXP; loc-Southern Baja;Sat 117; Tpdr 1130

The down side is that he may only get enough of a technical education to get on-line and end up with just another crappy marginal installation.

processauto posted : there is no difference between using a commissioned modem to check crosspol vs a non commissioned modem. you can use the dw6000 to check acp on any satellite you want provided you enter in the correct pointing parameters at the beginning (from the installer registration process)

however a commissioned modem will not browse the internet unless it is pointed at the correct satellite (a non commissioned modem will not prowse period). if you try to use it when pointed at any other bird you are basically left dead in the water, if you contiue to re- run the complete websetup/sbc when this is complete the modem's configuration will revert back to its default pointing parameters and you will get a message that there is no recieve signal lock since you are pointed incorrectly
