Re: Motorola SB 4100

What version software are you running?

And is your config file pushing DOCSIS 1.1?

Thanks,
Mike

The SB4100 was running 1.4.8.18, and it was a 1.1 config but the modem was only running in 1.0 mode

Also I can achieve these same results running any firmware that is 0.4.4.0 or above

are there some modems that can handle more connections than others?

I got about 5200 in NE Philly about 2 weeks ago, recent benchmarks have been pretty lousy (suspect it's the general slowness that's crept up recently).

I know the 4100 was originally on then got pulled off the "can't handle 6Mb/s download speed". I'll settle for a 10% loss if the best I can get is ~5400Kb/s. However, given that in ~8 months or so the new download speed for Silver could well be the current Gold speed (8Mb/s), I'm wondering if it will be totally maxxed out by then.

I'm glad not to have to get a new modem now but if I'll need one in ~6 months I might as well start looking now.

Doubtful. Jackie_Chan is testing OOLs new 20Mbps/2Mbps package with his 4200, »Re: 20/2 for early modems ie: sb4100/sb4200?. And Qumahlin could probably post a screen shot of something nutty like that on his 4100.

There are some modems that have had issues dealing with large sudden influxes of connections caused by things like Bittorent and certain multiplayer games, but to most had the problem fixed via firmware patches and newer models already took this into account and were not susceptible. Problem is there are alot of home routers that experience these same issues.

But off hand there aren't any modems that can handle more connections then another modem.

You nailed it. DOCSIS 1.1 with 1.4.9.0 code will fix the speed issues on the SB4100. That's because Comcast enabled Concatenation.
