Icon posted : Those conduits could be for future fiber build out. I can't say for sure though. However, all of our buried copper here is direct bury, and not in conduit.

We have a couple remotes that are fiber fed, but most are fed by copper circuits. A T1 can either come over fiber or copper, and is 1.544 megabits/sec. When referring to the 24 channels a T1 can provide, you're usually referring to digitized voice channels. When you use it for data, you achieve the 1.544mb/s ratio, providing you have a "full" T1.

Kraphty is right in that a T1 can use either 1 or 2 pairs. All our circuits are on 2 pairs, a Tx side and a Rx side.
--
OT...getcha some!

Kraphty posted : Sounds like someone in your area is getting ready to put in something. Fiber is run in interduct like youve been seening but interduct can be used for other media as well, so only time will tell what is going in in your area.

The T1's can be either a single pair or 2 pairs depending on many different factors (usually provisioned on singles these days). The channels are different frequencies transmitted on that pair.
--
www.gadgetskins.com

Hint hint Alltel: lets do this with fiber!!

Would fiber be in pair of 2 inch orange and blue conduit? Because someone is running that stuff all over the county around here, It doesn't have anything in it right now, but it's all dug in under the ground, and is ready for a cable of some sorts to be put in it, though. Your remotes only have T1 ran to them? That's just a copper line, right? I've never seen a T1 line, and don't know much about it, other than it comes in 64k channels for upstream and downstream. Are these channels individual wires? Or? Almost all of the remotes around here have fiber ran to them, some of the fiber is "small" but it's fiber none the less.

And I agree, I'll be fine with 3mb for a long time, now just a 768k upload, and everything would be just peachy.

Kraphty posted : Well I personally would like to see the upgrade if the other Tiers get rearranged as well. I would much rather have a 3/768 line than a 6/768. Oh and I am just over the 12k mark so I may not qual the 6meg down. Anyhoo....any upgrade in my area and a new backhaul to the remote POP will almost certainly be necessary and that will be a blessing.
--
www.gadgetskins.com

Icon posted : Not necessarily, as you're doubling the bandwidth again, from 3 to 6 meg. Thus effectively cutting down the length it will travel before the signal gets distorted by line noise/power influence and hits the dirt. I'm judging this based on going from 1.5Mb @ 18k ft to 3Mb @ 12k ft. I don't think going to 6 meg will be as drastic of a change though, which is why I said 8-10k ft.

But I could be off on my theory as well. :D

Tim618 posted : talked with a rep today and said they are going to try to plan another upgrade supposedly for 5 or 6 megs down, and either 512k or 768k up within a years time. i highly doubt it will be much help to a lot of us because supposedly the loop link will have to be 5000 feet, im stuck at 17,500 feet with 1.2 meg DSL now, no more ultra.

Icon posted : I had mentioned a possible upgrade in a previous thread as well. I'm hearing 6 meg download, but hadn't heard anything on upload yet. I sure hope its 768, that would be very nice! :)

As for the Max up/dn speed that our test equipment shows, that is theoretical, and in alot of cases the line won't truly handle that much bandwidth, along with having a noise margin that the modem will train up with. Depends on how far you are from your CO/RT and your SNR and ATT levels.

Tim618 posted : i've been having trouble with my line so a tech came out today and found a problem down the road a half mile, came back inside my house to test my speed, hooked up his "DSL tester" and it trained right up to 3072/384 but it said MAX Upload 876. so i asked him if i could be trained up to that speed. he said yes all they have to do is program it so i asked him if there planning another upgrade and he confirmed this and said probably 6 months to a year though and that it would most likely be 5 or 6 meg down with 768 up. some good news i thought you all would like to know.
