[DW6000] Help: Can't Access Secure websites/https sitesJust moved from Dial-Up Internet connection to the DW6000 Professional system. Using it with a D-Link DI-624 router in a pier-pier network [no host/server]. Using OS Windows XP Professional. All computers including my wireless laptop can access non-secure websites on the net, but cannot seem to 'log on' to secure sites. Is it Direcway, the router or something in Windows? When I called Direcway tech help, all they said is 'that they were having problems with the satellite and 'they' were working on it and hoped to have it fixed within 30 minutes.... of coarse that's what they said on Friday [9/9/05] too and it's now Monday... So, they were no help since they couldn't say one way or the other whether it was their system or my computers/network... Hope someone can give some direction. I REALLY need to do a FedEx label and cannot access the 'Prepare Shipment Online' page [or any other secure pages like financial websites...]- just get error message "The page cannot be displayed". Thanks in advance! |

Just add it to the proxy exception box where you set up your proxy under tools, internet options, connections, etc... Also, make sure your proxy isn't set on the » box or it won't work either. It only works on the http. I had the same problem, but once I did this everything worked fine for me. |

Thank you for helping! However, I'm am marginally computer literate so need more guidance [I always love the manuals that always refer you to your 'System Adminisrator' to fix the problem.... wish I HAD one! Anyway, what IP address do you use for the proxy server? The router's or DirecWay's? DirecWay is plugged into the DI-624 WAN connection. And what port? 443? or 80?? I am really clueless on this stuff. I live in the boonies and have not met anyone yet who isn't more technically challenged than I am, so I really appreciate this forum and ALL the help it provides. You guys are great! |

On a CE 6000 you set the http proxy to 192.168.0.1 and port 87, set this ONLY for the http protocol. On your PRO try that address or the IP of your 6000, one or both should work.
Do not set the proxy for any other protocol. |

Hello, All - Well, I tried what was suggested in setting up the proxy server/settings, but it did not make any difference. :-( In another thread someone suggested inputting under the 'Secure' field in the advanced Proxy settings, the IP address of 216.148.246.133 and Port 80. This at least gave me a new error message of: "Https proxy not supported (Error 512) The Https Proxy is not supported. Please check the browser's proxy settings for Https traffic" At least this was different from the normal "The page cannot be displayed" message that I receive with all other settings. So any other suggestions ? When I access the net via 'Dial-Up' on my laptop, which is connected wirelessly to the network, I can access secure sites just fine... Only when I try accessing secure sites through the DirecWay connection do I run into this problem. So, I don't think I have a 'ADS hijack' bug that is corrupting the SSL connections. By the way, I do use Norton SystemWorks 2005 Premier, Revision 8.02 and I have XP/SP2 Firewall 'On'. I also use Spy Sweeper Ver 4.0, if that makes any difference. Can maybe someone explain the meaning/difference between the router's WAN settings for IP Address and the IP Gateway Address? Since I have a Static IP address assigned for the DW6000 [being the Pro version], I assigned the Gateway IP address one number less than the IP Address. Did I get this backwards ?? Also when I use Mozilla as a browser I get a 'Time Out' error message rather than the IE cannot find page error message. Don't know if any of this helps you. This is really frustrating to me! I wish they made this simpler.. Thanks again for all your input!! You're saving me from insanity |

Re: [DW6000] Help: Can't Access Secure websites/https sitesHave you tried cycling the power on your DW6000? Sometimes that will allow you to browse to secure sites. Have you tried removing the router and plugging one PC into your DW6000 to see if you can browse to secure sites? Set the network card in the PC to obtain it's IP and DNS server IP addresses automatically. Power-cycle the DW6000 (power-cycling is an important step, see Note below) and then reboot the PC. Note: A DW6000 Pro unit hands out an IP address to a network device (router or PC) that's connected to it, and the DW6000 associates that address with the MAC address of the device. You need to power-cycle the DW6000 unit to release the IP/MAC address association established your router so that your DW6000 can hand the address to the PC. When you add your router back in later, you'll need to power-cycle your DW6000 again and then reboot the router. said by jvvm:Can maybe someone explain the meaning/difference between the router's WAN settings for IP Address and the IP Gateway Address? Your router's WAN IP address is the Public or Global "Static IP address" that your DW6000 Pro unit hands out via DHCP to the router's WAN or Internet port. The public address of your DW6000 unit is one IP address less. For example... if your router has an address of 69.45.67.89, your DW6000 unit's address would be 69.45.67.88 The public address of the DW6000 would also be the Gateway IP address assigned to the WAN port of your router. |

Thanks, Spinnaker, for your help!
Yep, I've tried connecting my laptop directly to the DW6000 modem, to by pass the network, and it still cannot access secure sites like FedEx.com [Prepare Shipments Online page] or any my financial 'Log In' pages like Ameritrade.com or TDWaterhouse.com. So, I don't think it is the router settings.
I tried re-booting the DW6000 and the Router like you suggested, but that did not change anything either. So, back to DirecWay Tech Support.
I just got off an 1 1/2 hr call to DirecWay where they tried to trouble shoot the problem too. To no avail! Even the Tech guy was stumped, so I have now been referred to an 'Engineer'... With the tech we tried all their work arounds - ie reset all defaults in IE Options, clear cookies, history. Setting up the Auto Detect and Proxy settings under the 'Connections' Tab, 'LAN' settings. Using a different IP address for the 'HTTP' setting rather than my DW6000 real IP address and with a different port than 87... nothing!
Still can access some secure Log On sites, like the Union Pacific Railroad, but not any financial sites or FedEx. I only have four sites at the moment that I cannot get into. But I don't use that many, and these four sites are rather important.
I'm wondering if these sites use something special that blocks access....? I've tried putting the Https Log In page address in my 'Trusted Sites' under IE Options, Security Tab, but that did not change anything either. Don't know if you have any other ideas? Thank you again for trying to assist! Everyone is Great on this site! If the 'Engineer' ever calls and comes up with a solution, I'll be sure to post it here for everyone. Thanks! |

Well, I finally have all my secure sites and it was not any of my settings! It took the 'Engineers' to tweek THEIR system to get it up and going. So I am now a happy camper with the one exception being my email account from another ISP which is still not working quite right yet.... ho hum, well, I suppose I will eventually get that sorted out as well. Anyway, THANK YOU to all who were willing to give valuable help!! That at lease enabled me to 'sound' intelligent to DirecWay Techs so they could see it was a problem on their end and NOT on mine. So a big thank you to all of you!! Best Regards - JVVM |

Re: [DW6000] Help: Can't Access Secure websites/htWhat did the engineer tweak? I spent 4 months getting DirecWay wrking with over 60 hours on phone calls (They finally replaced the DW6000 - duh). I've been on DirecWay for over 18 months and still do all my secure stuff at work - banking, PayPal, financials, etc. |

I have been locked out of secure sites since sometime this weekend, as well. I've tried all the usual things. Have been down this road many times before. Still this afternoon nothing is working. I'm thinking it is almost certainly a Direcway problem, but wondering if it is worth calling in for??? The last time this occurred, they had some sort of problem and finally after 18 hours or so they corrected it. Am just wondering how many others are having probs??? |

Just posting so you know it is NOT system wide.
I have been on quite a number of secure sites today, including the secure side of eBay, PayPal, Ing Direct, Emigrant Direct, Navy Federal Credit Union, Staples, and probably several others and all worked as they usually do. That is to say, slowly, which is normal for me on most secure sites, but no more than usual.
Hope it clears for you.

Same problem. Direcway acknowledges they are having a problem and none of their secure settings or ports are working. Requires an engineer tweak that they report to "advanced technical support."
I don't understand what they do, but still not working for me either. 48 hours without secure site access. |

Here's how they finally got mine working again:
Tools>Internet Options>Connections>LAN settings
Unclick the box and do not use the proxy server settings at all. Make sure the Windows Firewall is off.
Power cycle the modem.
Working again.
Another way to find out if a firewall or Operating System conflict is blocking secure site access is to restart your PC in safe mode. Restart and keep clicking F8 key until you get into Safe Mode. Then go to Internet Express and to the site. If you can get in that way, you've got a firewall or OS problem. |

Re: [DW6000] Help: Can't Access Secure websites/htSorry for late reply! I've been on vacation... Anyway, really cannot help you because they did not tell me what they did. It just started working after I talked to a special engineer [when you call a special Tel# they give you that you have to have a 'pin' number to get to the tech guy]. I've have a call back from them to see how things are going, but I have not had a chance to call them yet. When I do I'll ask to see if I can find out to help you! I share your frustration! I think has to do with the protocols of their software with those sites. I gave them a list of those I could not get, and like I side, after a couple of days they just started working...?? |

I'm curious if anyone ever was able to find the technical details on what resolved this? I am having what appears to be the EXACT same problem with Comcast, and am having no success in getting them to consider it may be their problem.
Thanks. |

dw6000 can't display pages sometimesHaving lots of problems, I can't see all the pictures, and most of the time I have to refresh 5-7 times to just get a page to come up. Secure and un secure. I have tried all the suggestions on the forums to get the pics. to show with no luck. And one more thing. The way this thing acts most of the time now I might as well have dial up. All of this started about a month ago. Anyone have any suggestions?? |

Re: [DW6000] Help: Can't Access Secure websites/htI have had this same problem before on one of my family members' computer. The computer is a Dell, nothing special about it. It has a cable internet connection through northland cable. I saw this problem reoccuring and so I called a Dell technician, and they had to have an expert call me back. When I talked to the expert, he had me go into dos and input a lot of .dll files. After I did that, it worked perfectly, all secure sites came up. I figured at the time that this would fix my problem forever, but i was wrong. The next time I visited my family member and got on the computer, it was doing the same thing again. I know this probably won't help anybody, but it might give some more insight into the problem. |

Re: [DW6000] Help: Can't Access Secure websites/https sitesI had difficulty with secure (https) websites. I found this post on another site. I didn't trust winsockxpfix so i just manually ran netsh int ip reset logfile.txt and rebooted. That did the trick. It is advisable to back up your registry first since that command changes registry entries.
The second post, I pasted at the bottom, Was also helpful for some people.
Good luck!!!
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ FIXING THE TCP/IP STACK AND WINSOCK
TCP/IP stands for Transmission Control Protocol / Internet Protocol and the TCP/IP Stack is the set of layers of communications protocol that connects computers on the internet. In Windows, this is controlled by a file called Winsock.dll. If you are having troubles relating to this type of problem, some of the symptoms you encounter may be that you can "ping" pages on the internet, but your browser always returns a "page cannot be displayed" error.
Sometimes this type of error develops as a result of running a program like LavaSoft's AdAware or SpyBot Search & Destory in order to get rid of "spyware" running behind the scenes on your computer. These programs may inadvertently destroy your internet connectivity by removing certain necessary Registry entries. You might also develop such a problem after removing network software incorrectly or uninstalling a firewall improperly, or even running a Registry cleaner a little too recklessly.
In previous versions of Windows, you can reinstall the TCP/IP protocol fairly easily, but in Windows XP the TCP/IP stack is a core component of the OS. However, you can "reset" the TCP/IP to the same state it was in as when you first installed Windows XP, as described in this Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...kb;en-us;299357 How to Reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in Windows XP
What you basically have to do is to type at a Command Prompt a command like the following:
netsh int ip reset logfile.txt
When this command is executed, it rewrites pertinent registry keys that are used by the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) stack to achieve the same result as the removal and the reinstallation of the protocol. The registry keys affected are at the following:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\DHCP\Parameters\
There is a program available called WinsockXpFix.exe that does the above, and that also does some other things that are aimed at fixing Winsock in XP. It replaces Registry keys here:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock2
It backs up a file called Hosts in the folder WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc and then replaces it with a default new one. The Hosts is a plain text file linking web or network addresses with their IP addresses; this file may contain invalid entries due to modified web page addresses, and may become corrupted as the result of spyware, trojans, the use of file transmission networks such as KaZaa, etc.
After doing all this it reboots the computer.
The WinsockXpFix.exe program can be downloaded directly from the author, here:
http://members.shaw.ca/techcd/WinsockXPFix.exe +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Basically I found an article at Microsoft's site entitled "How to troubleshoot situations where you cannot complete MSN sign-up or connect to SSL secured (128-Bit) Web sites by using Internet Explorer in Windows XP" ... for some reason this forum is not letting me add a link to the article. Let me know if you can't find the article and need a link.
To make a very long story short ... all I had to do was re-register the following .dll files:
Softpub.dll Wintrust.dll Initpki.dll Dssenh.dll Rsaenh.dll Gpkcsp.dll Sccbase.dll Slbcsp.dll Cryptdlg.dll
To re-register these files, follow these steps:
-----------------------------------------------
1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type one of the following commands, and then click OK (copy and paste is your best friend):
regsvr32 softpub.dll regsvr32 wintrust.dll regsvr32 initpki.dll regsvr32 dssenh.dll regsvr32 rsaenh.dll regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll regsvr32 sccbase.dll regsvr32 slbcsp.dll regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll
4. Click OK when you receive the message that says DllRegisterServer in FileName succeeded.
5. Repeat for each command line listed above |
