What Speed Upgrade?

Fat City posted : If there's been a speed upgrade in west Contra Costa county, then you sure could have fooled me. I'm still getting 4000/384 and I have Comcast TV service. I called the help line and was told that my modem is rigged for 6000/384 so they agreed to roll a truck to check things out. What a farce! Two guys spent 5 minutes here this morning, basically telling me that the upgrade hadn't come to my area yet and that I was guaranteed no better than 3500 anyway. My protests to the contrary went unheard and they left without doing a thing. The ticket was written for intermittent loss of connection, not low speeds.

I've tried a few things myself but they haven't helped. Disconnected the router and hooked up directly to the modem, swapped out the HSI/TV splitter on the outside of the house, and made sure all connections are secure. I'm still at 4000/384.

Should I swap out my modem? It's an RCA DCM305, which is on the approved list. It's never given me a lick of trouble in the two years I've had it.
--
Another flaw in the human character is that everybody wants to build and nobody wants to do maintenance. - Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.
