[Speed Problem] Surfing Slow & Page Loading Stalls

Hello, all,

I am a current subscriber of SBC DSL Pro service (3008/512). For the last month or so I have been experience very 'choppy' surfing (pages start to load, then stall for a few seconds, then start again, etc, etc.)

I called SBC DSL tech support and they completely wasted my time. So I came here and ran a couple of tests.

Throughput speed tests as follows: Down=2387, Up=66.
(Man, that upload speed sure looks funky.)

I also ran the packet loss test, and the results are here: »/quali ··· /1862378
Doesn't look too good, either.

Hope someone can help me out or at least point me in the right direction. I would be happy to provide any follow up information needed to further diagnose this problem.

Thanks in advance for your assistance and support.

Re: [Speed Problem] SBC DSL Surfing Slow & Page Loading Stalls

What modem do you have?

Can you run a tracert to www.yahoo.com?

I'm assuming you use Windows, so if you don't know how:
Start | Run | type in CMD (or COMMAND if you use Windows 9x/ME)
Type in tracert www.yahoo.com when the prompt opens.
Right click, choose select all, press the enter enter key to copy to clipboard, and post back the results if you can -or- screenshot it if you wish.

Also, are you sure your computer is virus free? Some viruses or things can steal bandwidth, so is there any modem activity when the trouble occurs?

Hello, Defcon888,

Modem is a SpeedStream 5360. Computer is virus- and spyware-free. No modem activity during page stalls.

Tracert results as follows:

Can you ping 67.126.26.182 -n 25 and post back? Any loss?

Does the trouble happen at any specific times of the day (or night?)

Re: [Speed Problem] Surfing Slow & Page Loading St

Hi,

I'm near San Francisco and we've been having the same problem as you. Just recently, for the past month or so.

Now, you'll be surprised to see my results for the Speed Test. I know I am.
Down: 48 kbps. (A 6 KB/sec transfer rate.)
Up: 424 kbps.

I feel like I'm on dial-up again. I'm below the "ugh" rating on the Speed Test table. I really need to get this fixed.

Line Test: » ··· /1862716

I don't mean to hijack, but I ran tracert also, just to see any differences between ours. Yours seems to be a bit faster.

I don't know if it's just our area or what, but it's becoming unbearable. I have a HomePortal 1800HG.
