gg5 posted : This is just one person's opinion, but better not to take a chance on it. Recheck your building steps, too, but if you can't rule out the board, replace it.

You're already going to have to spend, say, $100 plus on a decent CPU. If you spend another $50 to 100 on a good mobo, you'll have more confidence of not frying anything, and it will open up your choice of CPU to more than just those which are compatible with Duron socket. Low-end Athlon 64 now can be had for what you probably spent on a Duron a few years ago. See the bargains at techie-favorite online retailers (not sure whether it is permissible to mention names).

Make sure your technique is good too.

* Follow paper instructions about getting all the pins in right, no force

* Use HSF that has one of those clamp things so you don't have to be pushing with a screwdriver to get the HSF attached

* Here are thermal paste instructions

»www.arcticsilver.com/arc ··· mall.htm
or »www.arcticsilver.com/arc ··· big2.htm

* Don't skimp on memory. I have all of my motherboard stands in, and I had a heatsink and fan on it......does this mean it will fry another cpu if I get one?
--
100,000 Sperm And You Were The Fastest?

Cowboys86 posted : How do you know the CPU is fried? You need to call ASUS technical support and speak with someone there. I have had an A7V333 for several years, but and 3 weeks after I originally bought it, it quit recognizing the cpu, doing what yours does. I knew mine was good (had other boards to test) and I found out from a representative that lots of the A7V333's had a grounding problem which could ruin the board and cause the CPU not found voice to come on and refuse to boot. I had to send mine in and get a replacement. If you have another board to test the CPU in or vice versa, do so and see which one is the culprit.
--
"I'd rather be hated for the person I am, than be loved for the person I'm not." - Kurt Cobain

poppster posted : well my processor just fried....does that mean the mobo is shot as well?? I'm pretty upset, but I guess that shit happens. Rather than buying a new mobo, I want to just purchase a new cpu and fan. The LED light on the motherboard still lights up, and I still hear the automated messages, No CPU detected, NO CPU detected. So that means the motherboard should still work right?
--
100,000 Sperm And You Were The Fastest?

ChiTang posted : Some ASUS mobo does not have the CMOS jumper, only 2 contact points to use. I do not remember what it is with your mobo. Just remove for battery for a few minutes and put it back. That should do it.

Cowboys86 posted : You should start by resetting the bios with the jumper near the battery. If the timings/memory speed are user set in the bios and don't work with the other sticks you have, you could get this scenario. Resetting the bios will default it to read the SPD info and automatically set timings/speeds.
--
"I'd rather be hated for the person I am, than be loved for the person I'm not." - Kurt Cobain

Mobo problem

poppster posted : I have an Asus a7v333 pro motherboard paired with an older amd duron (morgan) processor at 1.3ghz. When I try to boot up, the lady says, Failed Memory Test. I have tried 3 different sticks of ddr ram pc2700 and pc2100. I still get the same message, Failed Memory Test. I dont get any video to get into the bios or anything. Could it be a misplaced jumper? Bad mobo, too many devices hooked up for initial boot-up?.......I'm lost and pissed off.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
--
100,000 Sperm And You Were The Fastest?
