NormanS posted : I believe it was the same as the diagram posted by janders01. In retrospect, though, I was relying on RIP in the two routers to establish a routing table; probably should have modified the routing table as he instructed. I did not do that last. The bridged modem was a Westell WireSpeed B90-36R516. It is currently non-functional due to stupidly running the wrong software for that modem model; and clicking a button with the wrong option selected; rather, jerking on the mouse at the moment of the click so the cursor shifted to the wrong button for the option selected. The result was to download the wrong firmware, which "bricked" the modem.

The current rig I am using is a SpeedStream 4100 feeding a Netgear FR114P. The modem is capable of establishing the PPPoE session, and assigning either a private IP address (always the same one: 192.168.1.64), or sharing the public IP address. I have opted to share the public IP address. By setting the router to IP address 192.168.102.1, I am able to access the modem, at IP address 192.168.0.1, through the router.
--
Norman
~Oh Lord, why have you come
~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum

invar posted : You can access the 327W just fine even if it's set in bridging mode. I have it set to bridging mode, assigned to IP 196.168.1.130 subnet 255.255.255.128 and I have a Linux box w/iptables doing all the routing/PPPoE stuff. Although my setup is a bit more complex, it should work just the same if your router is connected to the 327W with an ethernet cable. Just make sure the IP address you gave the 327w is on the same subnet.

And yeah, even when you're on bridging mode, you can still grab the transceiver stats.

rayik posted : I use a netgear router with the westell 327. Like you I gave the westell an ip address on it's own separate network (and on the netgear setting that westell address as the ip address). Didn't bridge the westell though. Just disable wireless AP and cleared the PPPoE log on info.

Easy to access the 327. Can't do it through the netgear router. I disable the connection. Unplug the pc from the netgear and take that cord and plug it directly into the 327. Then on your pc, go into network properties > TCP/IP and manually assign the pc an ip address. Put it in the same network range as the 327 (if the 327 is 192.168.1.1, then make the pc 192.168.1.x (but not 1 - the same as the 327). Then re-enable your connection and go to the 327 address with your browser.

When done, just disable the connection, go back into network properties > TCP/IP and set it to automatically assign an ip address. Unplug the pc from the 327 and plug it back into the router.
