windows socket interface, error code 0

Can anyone tell me how to fix this? I get this error when I ping. Maybe this is the reason I cannot go online. THanks for any help.:)

If you run "ipconfig /all" there may be a clue. Or maybe not.

Your error suggests LSP / Winsock corruption. There are 5 solutions for that problem, and you may have to try each one in sequence, until the problem is resolved.

perhaps you could turn on DHCP.
(Find the "Get Address automatically" check box in the TCP/IP properties, and check it.)

Then try again and let us know what changed.

I tried static and gave it an IP and also tried going dynamic. But both gave me the same ipcpnfig /all information. Pinging gave me the "windows socket interface, error code 0" message. Anything I missed?

If you have an LSP / Winsock / TCP/IP problem, you can configure all you want. You have to solve the problem.

I think I agree with you.

If he has tried reactivating dhcp and it was unseccessful, fixing the winsock problem is the solution.

Sounds like he needs to get the wireless working (notice ifconfig says "Ethernet adapter Wireless Connection") So it looks like he needs to configure the client.

Either that or his ethernet card is not working, may need driver reinstalled.

Hello Everyone,
Thank you all for the inputs. I was able to give a static IP and the card is able to ping my router. But I am not able to go online, or access my router when I type the router's IP address. Attached us my ping and ipconfig results. Any thoughts? Thank you.:)

So what change did you make, so that you are now able to ping your router. Earlier you "tried static ... pinging gave you the "windows socket interface, error code 0" message".

Are you providing this information from another computer going thru that router? It would really help to know that the router works.

BTW, please do the "ipconfig /all" as text, not a picture.
•"ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt"
•"notepad c:\ipconfig.txt"
•Copy and paste.
•Hella easier for all of us.

Hello,
Attached is the text of ipconfig.
To fix the socket problem, I used lspfix like you mentioned above. After that I put in static and dynamic IP and both gave me the same results as I explained - am able to ping the router but not access it.
Yes I am going through another wireless computer going through the same router.
Did I miss any information?

Try enabling dynamic IP, and see if that works. If the other computer works, this should.

Can you access the router from the other computer?

If that doesn't answer the problem, post "ipconfig /all" from the other computer too. Let's compare the two.

So what's the problem here? Let's review, and see if I have the story right.
•This computer won't get settings, when using DHCP.
•The other computer gets DHCP settings, can access the router, and can access the Internet.
•If you manually assign settings to this computer, it can ping the router, but can't access the router, nor can it access the Internet.

The manually assigned settings look good, at least comparable to the other computer. Did you try accessing the router from this computer, in the exact same way you accessed it from the other computer?

If this computer can ping the router, it doesn't sound like a physical connectivity problem. Check the router setup, see if there's any MAC address filtering setup.

If nothing else, this sounds like stopping with LSPFix wasn't a good idea, that you still have an LSP / Winsock problem.

The computer that has no problems can access the router and look at the settings. The computer with problem cannot do that, but can ping. There is no MAC address filtering in the router. Do I need to install the wireless card again? What other options do you suggest? Appreciate your help immensely.

Well, I gotta admit - this is a bit puzzling. Can ping, successfully. Can't connect. Since it's wireless, are you sure that it's associating with YOUR router? Is there anything in the logs on your router, when it's trying to connect? Is the other computer connecting wirelessly, or wired?

Try the rest of the LSP fixes, then reinstall the MA311.

I also did an IP release and renew to see if my computer can get a new IP. But it cant.. This is what it says:

For ipconfig /release:

Windows IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Autoconfiguration IP Address. . . : 169.254.162.225
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :

For ipconfig /renew:

Windows IP Configuration

An error occurred while renewing interface Wireless Network Connection : An operation was attempted on something that is not a socket.

Yes both computers are going wireless. Any thoughts? If reinstall is the best way, I dont have any other option.

You're still getting the socket problem.
•Try each of the solutions in my article.
•Re install the adapter.

Hello Cacroll,
"WinsockFix" did the trick, and my computer is working fine now. I enabled DHCP and there was no problem getting an IP, or going to BBC or yahoo. Really appreciate all your help and suggestions. Thank you very much.
