Re: How long have you had cable?

I have had cable since 1976. I started with Suburban Cablevision (owned by McLean-Hunter) which was then sold to Comcast in 1995.

A note on this is that I was 10 when we got cable and the system had 36 channels of which maybe 20 had something on them. HBO was the only premium. The total cost of cable with HBO: $14.00. HBO was not on 24 hours a day.

I was older than 10 in '80. Actually I was 33.
The number of channels, HBO and cost sound about right too but I don't remember the exact numbers.
The first converter box had 12(?) buttons and a 3-way switch to change between the three different banks of 12. I want to say is was a Jerold box but not sure of that either.

I remember too the day that we got cable - I was like in 6th grade or something like that in '84. We had a cable box with a slider thing on it to slide between channels. We also had an extra HBO "black box" between that box and the TV.

Yes, HBO was only on a few hours a day - and had the scrolling blue screen guide during off hours. HILARIOUS!

I think you beat me by a year, 1977. Ditto to everything you said. Except I think I was 13. And HBO was and still is trapped at the pole

West Caldwell (where I grew up) got cable a year before Verona (if that is where you lived at the time.) My street was the first street turned on in the town. My parents are still in the same house and still have cable.
