WorldCom wins bid - keeps some area up!Did some research and it seems that WorldCom has won the bid for SOME of the rhythms assets which will include the customers that are attached to those assets
They haven't worked out the explicit details yet from what I hear but ISP's and customers are supposed to be notified shortly.
If you visit worldcom's site on the main page you'll see an announcement that lists areas of the country that are their target markets where they will keep the equipment running.
The transition plan from what I hear is not in place yet, and nothing is certain, but this is the most hopeful news I have heard yet! I checked my area and they confirmed my CO is one of the ones that was purchased with assets and will remain up (at least as they are stating now).
Hope all of this works out, if so...way cool!
Hate to ask..how is WorldCom in terms of finances? Looks like results are down from last year, but they are making money! |

Where on the WCOM site did you see this list? I have been there and I didnt find it. I have heard that they are retaining assets in 31 markets, and a total of 709 CO's. That is what I've heard from contacts I have in the industry. But there is nothing I have found on the website that discloses WCOM's intentions as of yet. |

Thanks, found it. Seems that it confirms what I had heard already. BTW, my Dallas TX based Rhythms DSL conn is still running, no interference yet noted..... |

The worldcom "check your CO" site is inaccurate. I plugged in my Rhythms ID and it said I was one of the customers that would be retained; however, sometime around 5 PM today my link to the CO went down. Most likely the DSLAM is powered off since the physical line doesn't sync up. For what it's worth, I'm in the Falls Church (Merrifield) VA Central Office. (FLCHVAMF) -Rick |

The list is not inaccurate....it is a list of their "intended areas" to retain, once the acquisition is done. WCOM has not yet acquired what is left....it's only been approved by the bankruptcy court. The actual acquisition is likely to take 2-3 momths, and then 2-3 more months for WCOM to migrate all the ex-Rhythms assets into it's services. You WILL lose your service before that happens. No doubt. Don't we wish a bankruptcy court decision and a corporate acquisition could happen in the snap of a finger....
BTW, I normally log in as BrianDamage, but mysteriously, my password is not working, hmmm.... |

Well, actually, my outage was caused by my line being downed for a cutover. I'm back up again faster than the Rhythms service. |

I also had an outage early AM last Thursday 09/27. After that I noticed that I am going through UUNET routers. And it is faster than with Rhythms. I am in the Philly area - Chester County, PA. My ISP is Earthlink. I hope they will stay with Worldcom - it is working very well where I am. |
