said by shadow0290:Labsrus, did you HAVE to change your existing phone line to fiber? This is the main issue preventing me from getting FiOS, as I don't want to get rid of my traditional phone line.
Yes I changed to fiber and it's crystal clear in comparison to copper, I had hums and noise in both lines from the day I moved in here (while on copper) no longer, it works beautifully and better than I expected. It's the same service and they just bumped down the Freedom Plus Plan by $20 to $39.95 if you don't call Canada, anyone can call for that although they sent letters to FiOS customers first. More competition between VZ and CV-OOL (in the phone service area) Next will be our TV service, that combination plan will be $99.95 for cable, phone line w/o Freedom Plus and FiOS 15/2 (which is ALWAYS 15/2, absolutely no variation it's as consistent as you can get 24/7) I'm a happy camper with with all of it including phone service.
I was happy with my install (long one but the tech took a lot of time explaining things, checked all computers which I understand they don't do now) and ran from the street to the house, down through the attic to where my OOL was hooked up.
I don't know why you wouldn't want fiber for phone service, it works better for me as the copper was older and always problematic (home built in the later 60's) As I upgraded everything else in the home why not the phone lines. Just my opinion and experience. I'm on it for several months now and couldn't be happier (I'm also uploading from one computer to the other so I don't have to burn using yousendit.com non stop, no worry about being capped. It's called freedom to use my connection how ever I chose to in my opinion and saving me a lot in purchasing tons CD R's to transfer data from an older computer to the new one. I walk away and it's uploaded, come back and download to the comptuer next to it.
Best of luck! I would try it if available. I don't think you'll regret changing to fiber.
