YowzaThis is good news for all parties. Most of all existing Phoenix customers. Watch for more acquisitions by Megapath in the future, they may end up being one of the few left standing. And note the prominent mention of DSLreports! |

not so sure...they don't have residential pricing and their soho pricing makes nailed up modems look attractive. after months of struggle to get dsl, I may be back at 28.8 soon.. check it out at: http://www.megapath.net/price_buy.html and static IP's are an extra cost option. |

Yeah, this bit from the PR doesn't instill confidence. Phoenix may have been a pain to deal with but my service has been excellent:
"The companies plan to merge operations and administrative functions over the next 60 days. PhoenixDSL business customers will be immediately and seamlessly transitioned to MegaPaths systems and top-rated customer service. PhoenixDSL home users can expect continued service as the company determines strategic alternatives for residential service. Plans are to maintain a St. Louis presence."
P.S: it would have been nice if EITHER company sent us an email announcing this. |

Yea, megapath's prices are HIGH. What does that mean for everyone else? |

I don't think you all have anything to worry about. Although I have no day-to-day involvement with either entity, the residential lines will continue on the same network for the projected future from what I understand and you have a contract for your pricing. The service will be better and Phoenix will be well funded through Megapath. Thanks for the opportunity to serve all of you in my reign of command.
Sincerely,

Well I am sorry, I am not about to pay more than my $40/month for the same speeds as stated below:
SOHO Pro780 768-784 kbps SDSL $179 |

Somehow that doesn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling... Yes, we are contracted to a certain price, but what about the rest? Will we retain our static IP's? Will our price go thru the roof once our contract is up? (FYI, 2 years isn't a terribly long time, I'm already almost half way thru my contract). It would seem that you can't escape the megamerger monster, whether it be banks, ISP's or any other service... |

FYI, I have MegaPath "residential" IDSL. When MegaPath switched the product name from residential to SOHO they raised the published price by $10/mo. Nonetheless they kept me at my old price, no fuss or muss, even though I did not have a contract.
Because most DSL providers are so shady, it's easy to assume that MegaPath's gonna screw you like the rest. Before anyone goes ballistic, give their customer care folks a call or email them with your concerns. I've always gotten prompt answers. My concerns have been answered in ways that demonstrate that MegaPath values its customers. They aren't cheap, but they're a good value in my book. |

Through the same network? Does that mean we will still be routed to DBN.net? Are we going to be switched to Megapath's backbone at all? I hope so, and I hope even more that they have a full-fledged POP in Seattle...

You're comparing apples and oranges. $40/month is ADSL, $179 is SDSL. In Covad land, there is a large difference. ADSL is the consumer offering and speeds are all "Up To" rather than guaranteed. SDSL also has a SLA that gives partial refunds when your speed dips below the quoted level or your packet loss/latency exceeds a certain threshold. I can also tell you Covad charges the ISP much more for SDSL. I'd bet Megapath will keep the prices similar, as when they add up their subscribers and Phoenix's, they'll likely have better pricing from Covad... C |

I am an emplyee at Phoenix. The 784 is SDSL speed, not ADSL. We always offered IDSL, RADSL, and SDSL. The SDSL is through Northpoint. Ii have no idea how they are going to do things yet. But, I just wanted to let you know that the 784 for 40/month ($39.99) is SDSL, not ADSL... which we never have offered. |

My God,
Quit the whine..You all act like your DSL connection is crack. I say wait and see. Megapath does care about their customers and WILL honor your existing contracts with Phoenix. Why would they piss off a large segment of newly acquired customers?? Or risk lawsuits? If the service gets worse or the price skyrockets SO WHAT Megapath is not the only provider they just happen to be the best right now.
The sky is NOT falling....even if you are running around like chickens with your heads cut off |

Well, if you dont, why not keep your nose out of it. I remember you making claims about gamming before that were totally untrue. Its time to cut the cord, you think? |

Wow! I've never seen a Northpoint contract, but I'm guessing they are pricing SDSL at at least half of what Covad does. Otherwise you guys would be really bleeding money at that price... C |

First, if you have a term contract, they CAN'T raise the price of your service until the contract term expires. If you happen to have a month-to-month agreement, don't hold your breath, because its just a matter of time before they raise your monthly subscription fee to be on par with other subscribers. If you're on month-to-month, they can legally do this anytime, just as a landlord in a month-to-month lease. -- Regards,
lml

Are you still talking about residential service? Right now Tech Support can only be reached from 7am to Midnight, Monday-Friday. And they openly admit that they are evaluating what to do with residential. How can this be better? |
