[Vonage] Which Phone? Is Vonage right?

After spending 30 minutes on the phone (via my cell) with vonage last night I finally got their router, my router, and my cable modem to all talk to each other.

My computer can use the internet and the phone light on their modem is lit and according to the CS rep a phone plugged into the jack should work. He did some things on his end, had me do some stuff on my end and everything should be fine now according to him.

HOWEVER when I plug my wirless phone's base into the VOIP box and turn on my handset... no dial tone. Tried a different wireless phone base/handset, still no dial tone. The phone doesn't give me a warning, it seems to think it is connected. And when I turn on the handset, even though there is no dialtone, the phone light on the VOIP box blinks as if it is communicating with the phone, and when i turn the phone off the blinking stops.

CS Rep claims if I go get a cheap regular phone with a cord connecting the handset to the base it should work and that neither of my wireless handsets are compatable... what do you think? Any suggestions?

I will say that the vonage guy worked with me very well and was very nice.

Thanks

Have you gotten any phone to work on the vonage router yet?

Can't say I've ever heard someone say a phone won't be "compatible" with the vonage router....a phone line is a phone line. I personally have used all different kinds of phones on my vonage router....wired...cordless....900 mhz....2.4 ghz....5.8 ghz...never had an issue with a phone not wanting work.

Try finding a hard wired phone...and test it with that...if that doesn't work...something is wrong with the vonage router.

Try changing the Telephone cable from the phones to the Vonage box. ALso, Are you using a Linksys Router? If you are try setting up Port Triggering for port 5060-5063.

I'm not trying to be a smart-aleck here, but..
Are there two phone ports on your VoIP adapter and are you plugging in to line 1? Line 2 is not set-up to work unless you sign up for two lines of service (either two voice lines or a voice line and a fax line).

Do you have a router + VoIP ATA brands/models? If this router is a WiFi, then there is a possibility the WiFi freq used on the router is the same as the one used on the (2.4GHz?) cordless phone. You may need to change the settings on the router to use other freqs.

Thanks for the advice! I did try the line 1/line 2 thing so no worries there.

I will also try and figure out how to change the frequency of my wireless router.

As to the quote above. Thanks for the advice, however I have no idea what that means! Could you clarify a bit?

Thanks

Ok in the Linksys Router,IP address 192.168.1.1. You want to go to "Applications and Gaming" and then "Port Triggering"

Application Start End Start End
SIP 5060 5063 5060 5063 Check Mark

This will open any ports that may need to be opened. Also to change the Wifi Channel will not really matter all that much, but it's at

Wireless, Basic Wireless Settings, Wireless Channel and make this Channel 11 -2.462 GHZ.

If this doesn't work I would try to find a hardwired phone for testing, but I think your phones are compatible thats why your getting the green light. I think the problem may have something to do with the router and Vonage.
