Recent Slowdowns for MeThis post is more of an FYI for others.
I've been on the WOW service since July 2005. When I first switched over I had a few speed problems, but those were resolved in a timely manner for me.
Since that time, I have gotten the Ultra speeds (6mb) even though I was paying for the Advanced speeds (4mb).
For whatever reason, a few days ago my wife and I both noticed that speeds had decreased. Pages were coming up with small pauses, links were taking a few seconds longer, etc.
A few speed tests over a few days showed that I was getting 4.0mb rather than the 6+ that I had been getting.
So, I believe that WOW must have went through and audited their accounts and got things where they belong. Can't really fault them for this, I was getting more than I was paying for.
So, I called WOW today and agreed to the extra $10 for the Ultra tier and within 5 minutes, I was back to 6.4 MB down and around 700up (I have the advanced phone service....and we get a little more up). For me, it's worth the extra $10 to bring up pages and get downloads faster.
It's funny how you get used to a certain Internet speed and have trouble going back to the slower speeds (even though I remember when 3mb was BLAZINGLY FAST).
So, just in case any others see something similar, this is a place to start loooking. |

Web sites dont even give you that much bandwidth.pfft. What lame sites do you visit? I don't have any issue hitting 6Mbps on almost all the sites I go to. Personally I want to see WOW up the speeds more, and quickly, 6Mbps is too slow. |

I know I can tell if my speeds are right just by page connections and loading. The difference between 6 and 4 d/l is huge. |

Run netstat or netpersec while surfing. You will NOT see it hitting 6megs down. |

I suggest you take your own advice. You aren't telling me anything, I know when I hit 6Mbps. There are a lot of websites that let you download at 6Mbps, sure BBR doesn't hit 6Mbps, but that's because it's all text and no content to load, find a site that has a crapload of flash and come back and let un know that you are completely wrong. Or better yet, just troll somewhere else, we don't care that you think you know more than other here, as you haven't proven it yet. |

I never said or implied that I know more than anyone here. You said you hit 6megs all the time. Post some sites and let me see these sppeds you talk of. I just find it funny that you always have to be right. Your like that kid in high school that has done it all and you know everything. You are the one always acting like you know more than everyone. Grow up. |

The sites that I regularly visited, which came up noticeably slower for me when I dropped to 4mb were
1. www.dslreports.com 2. www.fedoraforum.org 3. www.vwvortex.com 4. www.deviantart.com
I know for a fact that these sites (and others) slowed because my wife came to me and said, "have you noticed that our internet seems a little pokey over the last couple of days". Seriously, even she noticed the difference. Heck, I even changed from WOW DNS to 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 to try to speed it up, thinking it was overloaded DNS since most of the sites above are forums and primarily text.
When I suggested that we pay the extra $10 a month, she had no complaints at all.
5 minutes after making the phone call, my speed tests were back up to 6.4 down and nearly 700 up. (I had been running about 4.0down and 400 up). The sites above were noticeably faster for me and my wife said her stuff was acting like normal again.
So, I'm not sure how to quantify it "exactly", but without a doubt the experience changed when going back to 6mb. |

That's far from the truth. I can and have been wrong before, but what I don't like is anonymous trolls trying to tell me that I am wrong and don't know what I'm talking about, when I do and others say the same. Sounds like you really need to grow up. There are plenty of sites out there that will let you get 6Mbps, it's your problem if you can't find them. |

Sucks to be you. I hit 6.6Mbps from there without any problems. Sounds like you have a crappy computer or bad connection. Ohh well, I proved you wrong, you can now troll elsewhere. Thanks for playing. |

Speeds are good for me. 3 machines on wireless network all on and 1 hardwired to make 4 cooking at the same time.

Peak hours, Sunday night. mmmk, if you can't tell if your getting your speeds just by usage(page loading etc.) and rely on speed test to let you know, then perhaps you aren't the power user you claim. Most people who post in this forum are very knowledgeable and informed, thus the claims for you to stfu.:p thanks. |

I upgraded to the 6mb a few months ago since every time before that when I called to upgrade they insisted they did not have a faster speed than what I had ( 4mb). However, I have noticed that about 6 months ago congestion has gotten a bit worse in our area in the 5pm-9pm time window. Any speed test I did with 4mb service in that window couldn't get over 3mb and I have a hard time hitting 5mb now in the same time window with the 6mb service. |
