[Spoiler] BSG: The Captain's Hand (2/17/2006)Alright, I'm bored and waiting on BSG to start in 45 minutes. Just thought I would start off the weekly thread. Nothing real to post yet. |

Ok...
So, the Pegasus has had for commanders, in order:
• A nearly pathological hard-ass • A criminal • A criminally inept dumb-ass
Oy.

Wow, a lot happened in that episode. Seems like the stories always get more complex towards the end of the season. |

Absolutely, hands down the best episode thus far for the second half of the second season. No flashbacks, some space battles, a political line drawn in the sand and a hotly contested contemporary issue (abortion) brought up.
As for Apollo's rank, he started the series as Captain, was recently demoted to Lt., got bumped back to Captain and then became a Major at the beginning of the episode and was a Commander at the end....completely jumping over Colonel.
When he took command of the bridge, I thought about having 2 Adamas on the two battlestars...didn't realize I'd see it happen....not in this episode, at least.
Hopefully the rest of the episodes for the season are on par with this one. |

This was a good episode, and it succeeded in restoring my faith. It was like watching a season one episode with a real plot, instead of the collection of events that BSG has been offering of late. |

At the end of the show, his had is handing him his commander Pips. |

Well, I think he just skipped Colonel. I would swear his dad said "Congratulations, Commander" - But he could have said "Congratulations, Colonel."
I guess I'll just have to watch it again! |

He did say "Commander" not "Colonel". So yeah, Apollo now outranks Tigh... |

Holy crap that was a good episode. I have a question -- Baltar, in his "screw this, I'm running for president" moment at the end of the episode, started talking about the Cylons not knowing the concept of freedom. He specifically made the comment, and I'm paraphrasing, "If we continue to take away freedoms, are we no better than the Cylons?" During that moment -- his "mental" Cylon comes around the corner to listen to his impromptu speech, wearing almost nothing, as usual. Was it me, or did she sort of cringe when he turned his speech toward sort of bashing the Cylons and their concepts of freedom? And then she sort of faux clapped at the end? It was like she was insulted, no? IronChefMorimoto |

One more thing -- any ideas why the Raptors were still intact with the distinct "helmet hits" on the canopies? Like the crews suddenly slammed into the canopies? It was weird -- I thought maybe some centurions had gotten aboard the Raptors and smashed their heads, but there were no signs of damage to the ships. Just curious -- it was a weird way that they seemed to have died.
By the way -- AWESOME battle scene!!!

IronChefMorimoto On a guess, the ships were captured and the crews killed, then left to act as lures. After all, they had to investigate the ships, which left the base-stars long enough to jump in for the attack. -tom |

I figured she was just surprised that Baltar had the stones to actually say all that in front of the President and the media, given his reluctance to run for office in the first place. |

Baltar has a complex of a golden boy. He hates it when someone says that he can't do or that, he goes a long way to prove them wrong. |

Frankly, the whole speech seemed kind of "broken" and didn't make a lot of sense. Seemed more like a vehicle for establishing the next election/conflict than about anything meaningful or coherent. -tom |

Anyone notice that Pegasus took 2-3 nukes in the kisser? How many hit Galactica in the mini-series? In the first season? Wonder if Pegasus is better shielded for that kind of attack. And why would protecting the topside be more important than the bottomside of a Battlestar? Just curious. It was an AWESOME battle. IronChefMorimoto P.S. - Did anyone tell Major Adama that Spock was inside the FTL drive reactor making it work again? |

Cause they said the topside took a lot of damage from the first couple hits, so they flipped it over to protect the already damaged side.
I would not be surprised if Pegasus did have more armor, since it is a newer ship. |

said by IronChefMoto:Anyone notice that Pegasus took 2-3 nukes in the kisser? How many hit Galactica in the mini-series? I only remember Galactica taking a hit from one nuke on the port-side flight ops pod. Don't remember them specifically taking any nuclear hits. The only real hits the ship took was the boarding vessel (or was that season two?). The only nuke that almost hit was the one being trojan-horsed by the captured space liner. said by IronChefMoto:Wonder if Pegasus is better shielded for that kind of attack. Hard to say. There's no real equivalent point of comparison. said by IronChefMoto:And why would protecting the topside be more important than the bottomside of a Battlestar? The first salvos hit topside. Thus, to prevent further attacks from using the breaches of the first salvos as entry points for later salvos, they rolled the damaged areas away from the base stars. Meh... Just made me wonder, during the Resurrection Ship episode, why they weren't trading nuke volleys there? -tom |

LOL....to me at least, this weeks "Commander Redshirt" seemed more like the pudgy middle aged (priceline.com) Shatner/Kirk from Star Trek V and later movies then Spock altho he DID die like Spock in the finest tradition of script plot rehashing. Now if Admiral Cain had those pointed ears.....yeouza;) |
