Re: Cogeco Internet Security SoftwareThe bloat is the main reason I decided I didn't want to use this package.
I appreciate everyone's advice, especially Krispy's efforts. However, for some unknown reason, after chkdsk, the machine would not boot to WinXP. I spent an entire day, booting to Safe Mode (only thing it would do), disabling startup items in MSCONGIG, going to various restore points, and no matter what, it would not boot. Finally, as I got the disks out to wipe it and start fresh, it booted and has been fine since... I'm at a loss to explain that, but not wanting to tempt fate again, I figured I'd leave this alone, and "hid" the offending folder so I wouldn't see it and want it gone.
It may be possible to re-install the software only to uninstall it cleanly, but I've had enough issues as it is that I'm going to leave well enough alone. Although... Reatogo does look promising... |

Most likely, your problems stemmed from not completely removing Norton prior to installing CSS.
Although most users uninstall Norton from the add/remove control panel, more often than not 'LiveReg' and 'LiveUpdate' are left behind. When this occurs, CSS install never completes after the reboot, and therefore it wont uninstall either.
My suggestion would be to first closely examine your add/remove programs list for any LiveReg, LiveUpdate, Norton anything or Symantec anything. Once you're sure it's clear, install CSS, reboot, then uninstall.
Hope that helps, Meefers |
