They're not all old peopleI know quite a few younger folks who have no interest in computers or the internet. They simply don't find it necessary - and it isn't, though that's hard for those of us who're hooked on the 'net to accept. |

Those same people probally would have said the same about Books, when books first became mass produced thanks to the printing press. 'Books! Bah! I'll stick to my mythology!' |

And now for the bigger, better question. It is a known fact that education is lacking compared to education in the north (The average student grades k-12, note that I know this may be 'news' to some people, and may offend others, but it is true) (We can come to this conclusion thanks to test scores); Is this because a larger majority of users in the south stick to a life without modern technology, and resources like the internet? |

A. Being from the south and living in the south I take offense.
B. Florida pushes technology down there students throats.
C. Even in more "southern" enviroments you all are stating a sterotype based on backwater hick towns that in the middle of nowhere in xzy state. I am sorry i been to lot of places here in the south and have never seen what you are talking about in any remotely large city in the south. |

Those really don't lie. Unless of course a large majority of students in the public school system down there like filling out the bubbles in the pattern of a dog. In which case the test scores are not accurate of current education. Note that I was only asking a question from that simple view point; don't take it so personal. The only thing you could find personal is the test score thing, which I don't see how you could, since that is irrefutable information. |

It's a fact that there are a very good number southern school districts who would rather teach religious dogma as science, ignoring centuries of true science, than provide students with the knowledge that they'll need for the real world. |

That's not all necceserly true. Florida, a southern state, has some of the highest test scores in math. If you don't believe me check to see what states dominate the Mu Alpha Theta national math convention. Now I feel like a geek. Yes there are some cities that fit the stereotypical hick, but most cities have evolved from that. No I'm not from the South nor have I ever been all over the area, but I have had friends who have been around there and have news clips that talk about new things coming from the South. Well theres my 2 cents. |

That's likely where it is. It's just an Americanized version of China's giant firewall. |

"B. Florida pushes technology down there students throats."
Florida may be located in the South, but it's not a "Southern State" if you will.
I live in VA and used to live in CT. I can tell you that in CT you are either rolling in cash, or are living in a trailer. While there is a middle class, it's kind of scarce.
In VA, at least in the Richmond area (the capital of the Confederacy of all places, YUCK), there is a lot of money. Charlotte and Atlanta are doing very well, too. |

Florida is not the south below Orlando, period. Use Mississippi or Alabama as an example and we will discuss this a bit more. |

The test scores are misleading. You see, the south does not encourage the public school system like the north does. For instance, approximately 65% of Atlanta utilizes private schools. Public schools are really only for a) those who can't afford anywhere else to go, or b) those who aren't smart enough for a private school environment. The rest of the south follows the same model, where possible. |
