17844kbps/1822kbps nyc speakeasy.net 18.732 Mbps/2.0972 optonline.net
I have Sci-Atl DPX2203 cable modem.
My router is OpenBSD 3.7 running on a Soekris 4801. OpenBSD is a secure Unix like OS. Soekris 4801 is a diskless i486 like pc. |

My bad Direct connecting a WinXP box to the cable modem yields 28Mbps down, so this is my issue. The Soekris is a bit underpowered for the job now that my bandwith has increased so much. Sorry for the noise and the rant. |

Signed up for boost on 3/11/06 and the nightmare began, modem went into infinte reboots.. Talked to 7 techs all gave me different answers, even replaced the drop to house. Optimum store reps said boost not avaible refused to exchange my modems . So what is offical story is boost availble in WNY (07093) it says it is on CV website. |

I also ordered boost on 3/11 and my modem kept rebooting over and over again. Field tech came, removed boost from my account and replaced my modem. He told me that they hadn't finished the upgrades yet and that it shouldn't have been available on the website. He also told me to try ordering it again in a couple of days, which I haven't done. Has anybody successfully ordered boost in UC, WNY, or NB, New Jersey? |

I'm not surprised by that. I'm going to guess that many of the appliance routers like DLink and Linksys are not going to have enough CPU speed to route the full 30Mbps. Many of them use similar low power CPU's like what was in my Soekris 4801 (266 Mhz 586 class Geode).
Actually the real issue with the Soekris wasn't the processor speed, it was the crappy on board NIC's that generated too many interrupts for the CPU to handle. I'm now using an old Dell PII 266 Mhz box with an Intel EtherExpress PRO/100 Dual-Port PCI NIC. It can route the 30 Mbps fine. It has about the same processor power as the Soekris 4801, but the dual port NIC is much better and generates less interrupts for the same amount of traffic.
Anyway, try direct connecting to the cable modem to rule out your router. |

i think there is a few but i dont have 1 and i tried linksys and netgear and they were poop and was stuck at 14 mb. i am always direct connected and my onboard NIC is Intel(R) PRO/1000 MT Network Connection and works fine but i have some linksys lne100tx NIC's that cant do the speeds for some reason. |

Last night OptimumOnline was down from 12am-6am in Westchester and parts of the Bronx. I'm noticing more steady speeds which are more like the normal steady speeds I used to get of 9.2mb and 856-902 kps up. Looks like OOL was doing some work last night, but doesn't look like its at 15/2 yet. However, looks stable tonight compared to the really bad speeds in the last two months. |

I had to replace my modem (5120) which was fairly new and should have worked. The replacement (5120) worked immediately |
