<description><![CDATA[NyQuil Kid posted : The problem with such "recovery" partitions, is that while they are convenient to degree, if the hard drive goes bad, the recovery partition won't work.  I still prefer to have the original CD.<br><br>For my clients, I actually do both.  I order the system with the reinstall CD, create an image, then save said image onto a hidden partition _and_ to bootable DVD. <description><![CDATA[Doctor Who posted : I work for a company that has to restore customer's computers all the time. If it is a newer model Dell, all you have to do is while booting up, hit Ctrl and F10 at the same time. That will do the factory restore on it. Most newer dells, compaqs, and HPs don't come with disks any more.]]></description>

It was a pain actually, took about 5 attempts for them all to copy correctly and ended up using 8 CD's and ruining about another 8. But it also had a recovery partition which I have used successfully on at least two occasions.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[xA4Hx posted : This reminds me of the situation where I got called as soon as two people I know bought their pcs. I was ask to set them up. After unpacking brand new computers only to realise no cds and then I knew they doing the stupid partition only thing. All I did was call up and ask and sometimes demand the cds , telling them I dont care about no stupid recovery partition that if the hd fails or has problems. I have no way to restore so they ship them out for both computers , one phone call each I made for both of them. That was after another person I knew called up and his pc was all acting up and I called up HP and demanded cds and they were shipped in less 7 days at no cost. I dont want excuses , I want results. The guy I bought the system from said there wasn't a CD, but how the hell did he do a clean install on it before he sent it to me???  :o ;)<br><br>If nothing else, I'd like to "create" a copy of the backup, if it's stored on the drive, if that's possible.  If not, then a phone call or two might be in order.  Leave it to Dell to do something stupid like this.
