FIOS Tweak test settings?I have looked all over the site and haven't found what I am looking for anywhere. If I have overlooked it. I am sorry.
I just got the FIOS connection from verizon. I want to use the tweak test on this site to check to make sure things are running smoothly. I am good until I get to the final step of the test where it asks you to describe your connection to get your results.
Service? It doesn't have FIOS so do I use DSL?
Speed? I currently have the 15/2 connection so I put 15000
Operating System? That I know. WinXP
Connection? This one has me for a loop. Now I know with Comcast I was just supposed to use normal. Now I am confused on which one to use.
Then you are supposed to click recommended and you get all the info. I just don't know how to fill this part out. Any help you can give me would be great. |

Just go to the activatemyfios.verizon.net and click the bullet to configure aditional pc's and at the option to optomize. Then check your speed at myspeed.visualware.com |

Thanks for the reply vz tech 2 but I am not a default settings kind of guy. Verizon by default...I think sets the RWIN way too high. |

98% of tweaking is the RWIN. 1% is the correct MTU and the final 1% are the 250 other settings. I'm a guy 99%. Set your RWIN high enough but not too high, your MTU to 1492 and you are there. |

Cablenut/Tweak settings for 30/5 FIOS connection?Anyone have Tweak settings for a 30/5 FIOS connection? I've been playing with settings but it seems pretty insensitive to changes and can rarely get over about 24/4.0. I'm currently using the Verizon recommendation of 307824 for TCPWIndow Size and GlobalMaxTCPWindow and MTU of 1452 (40 less that the PPPoE required value of 1492 as explained on several web sites). |

vz tech 2 ..
I don't think setting DefaultSendWindow above 65535 does anything. The only reason DefaultReceiveWindow does is because Tcp1323 Options are enabled. As far as Microsoft indicates those options only apply to the Receive side.
Not to mention the RWINs are all off and what's the use when you are setting the GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize to 131400.. That sets the ceiling for TCP RWIN, you will stop advertising anything above 131400.
131400 only allows for 10.5 Mbs at 100ms of latency. You won't hit 15 Meg unless you are under 70ms to the server...FYI
Per Microsoft:
GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize
Key: Tcpip\Parameters
Value Type: REG_DWORDNumber of bytes
Valid Range: 00x3FFFFFFF (1073741823 decimal; however, values greater than 64 KB can only be achieved when connecting to other systems that support RFC 1323 window scaling, which is discussed in the TCP section of this document. Additionally, window scaling must be enabled using the Tcp1323Opts registry parameter.)
Default: This parameter does not exist by default.
Description: The TcpWindowSize parameter can be used to set the receive window on a per-interface basis. This parameter can be used to set a global limit for the TCP window size on a system-wide basis. This parameter is new in Windows 2000.
Someone better check these settings. |

Here's another one you can take apart. Prior to applying this my upload max on any test was 1.85-1.86. After applying it I hit 2.07. This is the mask that testing under load, as cablenut describes, produced. I don't mind if it's not technically correct. I just like to see the tests show what Verizon says I have. |

^^^ that one worked nice |

You shouldn't need to do anything for 5/2. The default Windows XP RWIN of 65535 is more then enough. Everything else shouldn't need to be touched.
What are you getting on the NYC Speakeasy test for 5/2? Should be close to 5mb down and around 1700kb up. |

I get 5 up / 1.82 down. |

Nothing to tweak - you are hitting the limit. At best, you wouldn't hurt things with a setting change, but I don't think you can improve it and possibly cause your speed to be less then it is now. |
