Enternet or Raspppoe

I am about to purchase the 30 buck version of Enternet for my WIN ME Earthlink setup. Does anyone have a preference...Enternet or Raspppoe?

Anyhting I need to do to either to tweak?

For earthlink all you need is winpoet and I think you can get that free. What is wrong with the Earthlink software ??

I would use RAS. I was using both at the same time to compare them. Enternet started doing strange things after a month. I was using v1.4 which is what you will be wasting your money on. And I would strongly suggest NOT using Winpoet. I know of at least 3 people personally that had nothing but blue screens when they installed it. I have read about a lot more of the blue screens here. RAS has worked flawlessly for me and a lot of other people.

Why pay $30 for something that you can get just as good, or better, for free. I have not used Enternet, but I have used WinpoET, and currently run RASPPPOE. RAS has given me about 4% better speed than WinpoET, and no stalls whatsoever. Try RAS, if you don't like it you can easily remove it & use whatever you wish. Just be sure to completely remove any PPPOE client(s) that you currently have installed before installing RASPPPOE. Also, if running Win98, make sure you install the NDIS driver update.

dickalp,

Next question would be: Are you using an internal or USB DSL modem? If your are then RASPPPoE can be a problem, if not I would suggest you try RASPPPoE (it's free) and then you can decide whether you want to spend $$ for Enternet.

For Win2000, RASPPPoE is by far the best.

It integrates with the Network Setup, using all the built-in Windows Property Pages and stuff. Enternet uses some custom windows for setup.

Even more important, the RASPPPoE has much better documentation, with step-by-step installation instructions. I couldn't find enough detailed instructions to get Enternet to work.

I have Windows 2000, Alcatel SpeedTouchHome modem, Mindspring ISP, wiring by BellSouth.

I have avoided reinstalling EnterNet 300 (following some initial problems) but continue with RASPPPoE. I did read the RAS documentation, and it said the USB is only a problem if you can not establish an 'over ethernet' adapter. That is not a problem. My adapters are bound to ethernet.
My problem is substandard speed (in the 200s, and lots of variation), not connectivity. If you know otherwise, please advise.
Without repeating myself, I have done a variety of tweaks, and reinstallations to no avail. I am in the process of having the line checked for loads, caps, etc.....

Use whatever is compatible with your dsl modem and your OS.......Problems will be out there until they come up with a Standard for DSL Modems..............

Enternet and Raspppoe both are good to go overall.......but do check your compatibilites..............

I have Enternet installed and want to install RASPPPOE, can I just uninstall from control panel or do i need to go into Regedit? Also, I have Win98Se, how can I tell if i need the NDIS driver update or not and where do I get it if I need it. Thanks!

I am not sure exactly what you have to do to remove Enternet. Try contacting your provider, and see if they can help. If not, then remove it from the Control Panel. Since you are running Win98 SE you definitely need the NDIS driver update. Get it here .

To add to larsfum, uninstall Enternet through the control panel, and try to remove what is left behind. Some have said that you need to use a registry editor and remove any left over references to Enternet or NTS or Network Telesystems. I didn't do the latter, so just uninstall it and try.

That's all I had to do as well. However, Enternet 300 v1.4 and RasPPPoE co-existed on my machine for a few weeks without any problems.

As far as Enternet vs. RasPPPoE, when I was using Enternet I would constantly get "The Server has dropped the connection" error messages. Since moving to RasPPPoE, I've never had this happen

The NDIS fix can be found in Microsoft's tech article Q243199. All the info's there, if you need the update.

Thanks King & RYO. I knew someone that was more familiar with Enternet would show up. Sounds like you lucked out RYO by being able to have both RASPPPOE and Enternet on the same computer. The RASPPPOE homepage mentions that RASPPPOE does not play well with other PPPOE clients, and strongly suggests that they be removed before installing the RASPPPOE stack.

This may be a silly question and probably not the correct forum but here goes:
I am using the intel 2100 DSL internal modem. Where do I tell or look to see if I am running PPPOE?
I use a ppp connection at setup. Is this the clue?

This is the right forum, but a new post would have been better. Are you on as soon as the computer starts, or do you have to click and log in to connect? That would be the main clue! The latter means PPPoE!
