Re: Fawk you, RIAA

When the corrupt business is buying the laws it is unsurprising that the laws disagree with anything threatening to harm the racket.

What alternatives do you suggest? RICO prosecutions, perhaps?

That is, what's your alternative way of moving forward and promoting the necessary restructuring and cleaning up of the business?

I suggest not listening to bands who publish through Association labels. If you ignore their content entirely you send a message to all parties involved, and you do so in a legal way. Your protest becomes legitimized by the fact that you aren't breaking the law to do so. Piracy as a method of protest is a farce because it reflects badly on your character.

I'd be willing to bet that 99.9% of music pirates do it simply because they don't care. It isn't a protest, it's just a crime of opportunity.

Even if it isn't protest are you really naive enough to believe that the companies will cave from a few more people not listening to their songs? Of course not they will just blame the decreasing (although it will in fact increase) on piracy.

Naivete has nothing to do with it. Besides, who said this was anything about protest? I suggest those in protest not break the law in execution of the protest, but the cold reality is that people download this stuff illegally because they know they can get away with it. They're just criminals, not part of a cause.

Perhaps you can explain to me what good you're doing by downloading your music illegally? Seems like that's really working. Good job on your effective protest...
