Dell Insperon jkl keys type 123

A friend has an old Dell Insperon the when he types on the jkl keys on the key board he gets 1 for the 2 for the k and 3 for the l. It's like he using the function key but he's not. IF you push the function key it types jkl. Any idea's on what's causing this would be appriciated. Thanks.

Is it a laptop? If so I'd say the numbers lock key is on.

It is a laptop - hit the blue Fn key - between the Windows and Ctrl keys... See if that unsticks the key - if you hold down the Fn key then it will type the numbers in blue on the keyboard.

The function key is on all the time. It is all the keys that
that the fn key works with. If you push the fn key it types
what it's is suppose to. It's just like the Caps lock does
when you have it on or if you hold the shift key down. Is there a way to reverse what it's doing?

On my Inspiron is stops when you lift off the key. So if I hold down the Fn key then it types the numbers and as soon as I lift OFF the key it goes back to printing the letters. This is why I believe the key sensor itself is stuck so it thinks the key is depressed all of the time.

You may have to call the Dell tech support and see if there is a fix or search the net for an answer.

usually there is another button at the top to toggle numlock if you will. so Fn + pgUp would toggle it, etc. look on all the keys for small writing and those keys in combination with the Fn key will toggle it.
