In case you were sleeping for the last six years, Ameritech was required to separate the ISP and the DCLEC and the ILEC by the very regulators you seem to think have the inclination, ability or energy to provide you with your idyllic broadband utopia where the government owns the facilities and everyone leases access.

You have no facts to back up your claims, so you keep shrieking louder and louder. Guess what? The rest of us know better.

Your favorite ILEC sells its DSL at a loss to kill competition. It's all a lie. The true cost is higher because resellers pay MORE than retail customers for ATT DSL. ATT also claims that the ISP is somehow a different legal entity than the phone company...when everyone except the regulators ATT keeps in its pockets know the truth.

The real price of DSL, alas, is much closer to what Covad is charging...mostly because the tons of outdated regulation the FCC insists on keeping around.
