Make sure they remove the MAC of the old modem and add the new modems MAC. Do you also mean buying a new one from the wiz or another store....be a little more descriptive.

Yes the modem will work without registering it for up to 2 weeks. An average of 9 days before it is shut off.

plug er in, and let it rip.

you get a few days (9?) before it will be cutoff.

once you are happy with it, just call ool and have them register the new MAC, and remove the old one.

The old one will NOT work on the OOL network after being de-registered unless it is reactivated.

Make sure that before you unplug the existing (old) modem, you do a WINIPCFG release or if you're using WinNT/2k do an ipconfig / release to give the ip back to the modem and not have your MAC think it has one.
Doesn't always cause a problem but I think it screws some folks up some time. Then follow Dobby's advice once you're up and running.

Zero2:

Are you buying a new modem in an attempt to fix your email problem? I believe you cannot send emails with attachments, same problem as I have.

Just to add to this. If you do what Geek suggests, make sure you do it BEFORE you register your new MAC. The old MODEM will not work after you register the new MAC.
