Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 9 Build 03Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 9 Build 03Release Notes: quote: The full internal version number for this update release is 1.5.0_09-b03 (where "b" means "build"). The external version number is 5.0u9.
This update was originally released as 1.5.0_09-b01. After that release, it became necessary to provide an additional bug fix immediately. In order to simplify deployment, 1.5.0_09-b01 was replaced with 1.5.0_09-b03. This new release contains all the bug fixes contained in the old release, in addition to the new bug fix.

Had the same problem my self. So I uninstalled it. Then down loaded the online installer and got an error message about an internal error. So I had to do the offline install. |

Recommend downloading new version. Then uninstall previous version. Maybe followed by a reboot . Then install new version. Don't forget to link your browser(s) to the plugin and enable Java (if you desire). Test your installation here: » java.com/en/download/hel ··· stvm.xml» www.bodo.com/javame.htm» www.javatester.org/ |

New Version won't download for me, clicked on save on Windows Offline installation, and it does nothing. Never had this problem before. Internet Explorer 7 is great, so not switching because of that ever |

Uninstall your old version first. Go to the offline install and poof! It works perfectly. |

Thanks for the heads up SUMware2 . Man, what a pain with several computers. I always uninstall all remnants of the old version first, including the Sun folder in Documents and Settings and reboot (A creature of habit I suppose-has always worked well.) The online installation from your link worked just fine for me. I already had 1.50_09-b01 (Hmmm..wasn't that long ago either) The difference being b03 as opposed to b01 as mentioned above. Finally, (after a reboot)I disable auto-update, untick the tray icon, and tick 'do not start console' in the control panel options for Java. Guess I'm good to go.....until next week. |

Thanks, SUMware! A couple of notes about the wacky world of Sun-Java-- You must first agree to an EULA before downloading. Download the full, offline installation, rather than the online installation. You'll usually have better luck. Don't forget to uninstall the previous version, Java won't do it for you. The internal updater on the program you have currently installed DOES NOT WORK. 'Build number' may be determined by going to: Program Files\Java\(Java Folder)\bin Right-click on java.exe, 'Properties', select 'Version', highlight 'Full Version'. *Edit- Or get the build number doing it jabarnut 's way, if you like things simple. |

said by Cudni:i think all 3 are needed. Actually, all 3 can be deleted, although don't need to be, and probably shouldn't be, unless you don't care to look at exclamation points when opening that folder. This is true for IE 6, anyway. I don't know about IE 7. *And if you DO delete them, you will get an error message, which can be ignored. |

Same thing happened to me, so uninstalled my old one and then installed this new one and all is well again. Thanks SUMware. I'm glad you guys are all getting your downloads as quickly as they are posted at Sun's website. Bear in mind, though, that auto updates uses a different delivery mechanism and a different protocol for releases. Just look at the original post, b01 was released for download but was pulled and released as b03. So just because a release is available at Sun's website doesn't mean it has been certified as a candidate for auto updating. Look at IE7 for instance. It is out of beta and available for download at the IE7 website but as yet is not offered via Windows Update. Does that mean Windows Update doesn't work? No, it means Microsoft just hasn't implemented it yet. So, just because you're told you have the latest version only means Sun hasn't issued the new version through auto update yet; it doesn't mean it doesn't work. I have never missed being informed that I need an update via auto update (or java.com), the notification just comes some time after it has been available at Sun's website that's all. |

In the past, I had always installed the latest version first, and then removed the previous version. Methinks the new Build (_b03), under the same Version 9, prohibited that approach this go around. Thanks for the heads up SUMware. Jack |

I understand exactly what you're saying javaMan It just seems to me back in the days when I had auto-updates enabled, I could be at least one (maybe more), officially released updates behind and not one time do I remember being informed. And this was before I was even a member here where updates are posted almost immediately as you said. Beats me, maybe you just have better luck than I did in the past. And I've always been confused about how completely outdated some people can be, yet some of the test pages show you as being up to date....depending on the web site (java or Sun Microsystems). You do make a good point though. Perhaps in some cases we really do jump the gun around here, in so much as b01 was replaced so soon....we probably do often waste our time installing it before it is certified for auto-updating. Just thinking out loud. |

Right now auto updates shows that I'm up to date but of course we know that isn't the case. I have my updater set to check each week and at some point it will check and find a newer version than the one I am using and ask me to install it (assuming I don't manually download it sooner). I don't know if I'm lucky or not but that's just the way it has always worked. |
