Re: Petition to STOP the new Comcast Banner Ad

Ill keep any comments to myself. Dont want to derail your effort here, but.. Anyone notice anything hypocritical about this screenshot?
said by fiberguy2:

BUT, yea.. I see the irony.. they set up a site to attract a lot of petition signatures and place ads by google up there hoping to get a little revenue share off of a potential high visible site?

Trying to get that $100 cable bill subsidized perhaps? Capital ism at it's best? Who knows...

It's googletastic!
Big difference gentlemen. We pay for Comcast cable service, we do not pay for websites. We pay for access to the internet, we do not pay for many websites and we have the choice to not pay for websites we do not want to visit.

You are welcome to your opinion, and I am welcome to mine. He's exploiting something by placing google banner ads on it for a little ching. (who ever is doing this)

Sad, really.

No, what he is doing is offsetting his costs of the website. No one is charged to go to that site.

Well, if he needs $3 a month, ..... that's about what web hosting costs.

I find the adds annoying, and it really ticks me off considering how much our cable bills are...

I also wonder if there are issues with the software change that brought us the glorious banners. Ever since their appearance I've noticed that my cable box spontaneously re-sets on occasion, something I didn't notice before.

Probably unconnected, but I'm 'happier' blaming the ads!

A little more than that. I run a reasonably large automotive forum. Forum software uses a ton of bandwidth and a decent amount of hard drive space as well. Alot of times, forums can't run on shared servers because of the amount of simultaneous users.

Hmm.. host department charges $3.95 a month... unlimited bandwidth and unlimited disk space. There's one example. Then there are a bucket full of other companies that give terabytes of transfer. One page doesn't take that much transfer.

oh.. need the smiley icon too.
