Speed Tests Times From East To West

Hey,

Anyone ever notice that they get nice download speeds from tests sites in the eastern times zones (or even central time), but get mediocre times doing tests to the west (mountain and especially pacific)? Seemingly, my internet speed and latency issues seems to be resolved now, so I was thinking all would be.

I know it can take quite a few hops to make connections to anywhere out west, but I never had this issue before with my 4000/384 having slower speeds, and in this case where I now average 9800 download in the east, are about halved running about 4250 out west. Uploads are good everywhere it seems except to Florida (Broadstar test link here averages a few hundred less than advertised, no biggie).

I haven't been monitoring this in the last couple of weeks, but I had been complaining about this very issue before. I even posted a separate thread on this and got one person to reply saying they were seeing this too. Granted, the speeds aren't horrid (5-6 mbps tops) but they aren't at the full potential of the connection, which is 10/1 for me.

When I ran a line quality test, I noticed lots of packet loss reported from the west coast. Someone here (can't remember the name) said that this really doesn't prove anything since the backbone (Level 3) on the west coast could simply be ignoring some of the packets like they were done from a traceroute.

Regardless of the test, I did believe there were issues when being routed to/from the west coast. Who knows, it may be related to the speed issues that some are having in some areas. I'll run some more speed tests tonight and see if I'm still getting this.

Well, it is only a minor concern to me now, since after 5 weeks of hell with packet loss and latency issues, not being able to game, I can handle that now. Everything seems to be right as the mail. If it hinders my gaming out west, etc, then I may makes some posts about it again.
