Problem Connecting Wireless Router, EL & TW NO HELP
Hi there, any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
I just got an old wireless router (Netgear MR314) to use with my computer. I want to directly connect the computer to the router (I have a laptop I want to use wireless). I have Earthlink cable through Time Warner & a Toshiba PCX2200 modem.
I am trying to get the router to connect to the modem & internet and no one seems to want to tell me how to do this. Earthlink, Time Warner & Netgear have all been useless - TW says they don't offer help for Netgear & I followed Netgear's instructions and it's not working.
Specifically - does this modem operate in bridge or router mode? And does TW assign permanent IP addresses to EL customers?
This router requires the following info, and I'll put what Netgear says is the correct info in (): Host Name (Enter User Name that you use to login) Domain Name (Enter "home" without quotes) Encapsulation (Ethernet) Service Type (RR-Toshiba or RR-Manager) User Name (username provided by ISP) Password (Password provided by ISP) Login Server IP (If RoadRunner provided an authentication server address, enter it here, otherwise leave as 0.0.0.0) Wan IP Assignment (Get Automatically from ISP) DNS Server Address Assignment (Get automatically from ISP) WAN MAC Address (= Spoof this PC's MAC Address - IP Address 192.168.0.2 This IP address should point to the IP address of the computer that was originally connected to the modem.)
I tried these settings and NO INTERNET.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, or if anyone wants more info let me know and I will post.
Try unplugging the router and your modem from the wall and then plug everything back in again. Give them a chance to reboot and then see what happens. It should not be all that difficult to get online. Netgears are fussy and this is why I dumped mine and bought a Linksys.
It's possible that the router just isn't working. I was using an old router and though all the lights came on and it looked like it was working it wasn't. Make sure all your ethernet cable are good. With cable, hooking the up the router should be quite easy. The router just needs to be in DHCP mode, so you don't need to put anything into the username or password fields.
The settings you put seem to all be correct. I would try another router and see if you can get it working and if you can, then the netgear is bad. Hope this helps some.
