[HDTV] Motorola DCT6416 III Lost HDMI/Component output...

I picked up a DVD recorder today and had (as always) the HDMI connected to my TV and then added via composite (RCAs) to the DVD recorder simultaneously. Then from the DVD recorder to the TV via COMPONENT. So I had 2 cable signals to the TV on different inputs (HDMI and COMPONENT).

like this:

1) Motorola >>> HDMI >>> TV

2) Motorola >>> Composite >>> DVD Recorder >>> COMPONENT >>> TV

I did have working signal on both inputs and everything worked fine... did about an hours worth of recording from the DVR files and then tried to go to the HDMI input and had no signal. checked connections and even hooked up the HDMI to a different device and that showed up on the TV, but nothing out of the Motorola.

I could go on and on... but that would take a while...
Is it possible since I had 2 outputs working at the same time out of the Motorola that I overheated the HD circuits? I'm able to view Standard Def fine if I use the composite output.

I unplugged the unit and will let it cool down overnight and try again tomorrow.

Hi Vath,

your problem is very interesting, unfortunately I do not have a quick answer to give you. However I will do some testing, try to match your setup and see if i can recreate the issue, hopefully that leads to an answer.

sounds like maybe your hdmi connection is fried. Try component from box to tv.

The COMPONENT from the Motorola does work... but the HDMI from the box is still dead. They are coming tomorrow to install a new HD DVR box.

I'll ask if you are NOT supposed to have 2 video outputs going at the same time, but i'm sure the tech will know nothing about it...

I currently have HDMI to my living room and component to my Dell monitor. I haven't had any issues, but I hardly operate both at the same time (living TV off while using the Dell monitor).

From what I hear, other cable boxes shut off the component if it detects an HDMI connection. Our box does not do that. So either it is supported or they forgot to test it.

the guys came this morning and switched out my box witha new one and that works fine.... the tech also mentioned that he ran into the same problem at another house last night... being HD COMPONENT works fine but the HDMI signal was dead.

i'm a little scared to hook up the composite out while i have the HDMI cable hooked up. since that seemed to be start of the problem.

I do find it a little weird that if I just have the HDMI cable feeding the tv and then I plug in one of the composite audio cables, the HDMI signal will pause for a second, sort like it's processing the fact that something else was plugged in.....

I have this same problem. I figured Patriot Media "upgraded" the box causing the HDMI to be removed... This happened to me around the same time the screensavor was added. Now I see it wasn't a removed feature, so maybe I should request a new cable box. Glad to see you got things all worked out.

yes they fixed my HDMI problem, BUT as I was watching a Conan O'brien Recording in HD, the recording kept pausing and losing audio, then it would just crap out....
a later recording of Law and Order SVU in HD was perfect....

if the pausing keeps up I'll have to make another call

OK, it's been 2 weekes exactly and the new box I have now jumped to 100% and will not come down... even after I delete a bunch of stuff, it'll show a lower perecentage after i delete, but then if i exit the menu, and return to it or try to record something, it tell's me the hard drive it full.

Also, on some of my HD recordings, the audio mutes out at times and sometimes the video too....

YAAY patriot gets to come back and give me a 3rd box... wish me luck.
