Re: [TW] [TWC] 11220, Brooklyn, New York, how is your download si live in 11220. For the past few months, my download speed and latency has been horrendous.
Does anybody know why? Is it a sign that I should switch ISP? Unfortunately there aren't many options besides TWC and Optimum Online. |

Sorry for the double post.
I forgot to mention, it only occurs after 5pm. I'm guessing this is a capacity issue that Earthlink is not going to care about. |

I get the same thing, i have slow connections on night, somewhere after 6 p.m.. Also if you are a TWC customer, i don't think you can get optmium online since its a cable vision product. |

I live in the 11220 zip code area and for the past couple of days i have been having horrible download and upload speeds. At first i thought it was my modem and tried to restart it like 10 times and still had the same problem. The problem still persists. This is just ridiculous and totally unacceptable as i do most of my work online. |

just called TW people... and they said (after running me through several procedures which i had already done) that i have a 25% packet loss and that they will send the technician to fix it. They gave me an appointment of next Monday which is like 7 days from today...what a horrible service Time Warner has.... this is totally not professional... I am seriously thinking of switching.. any ideas... |
|
| |
The tech guy came yesterday, and in one website, it seems like he fixed it a bit. Its better than before. but the tests on speakeasy.net or speedtest.net ect... don't reflect the speed i was getting. weird. |

It's not just in Brooklyn, its in queens too. My speeds are great during the day up and down and ping is around 50ms. Come 5-6pm ping drops to 300ms and download slows to about 50KB/s, pathetic... |

The good news is I don't think it can get any worse. 90%drop in speed and 600% more latency. Is anyone in NY getting decent speeds/latency at this hour? |

I just swithed from Time Warner Road Runner ($59 a month) to Earthlink Cable ($29). They use diffent IP blocks all together. The latency has increased to the point of not being acceptable. Note that both packages are 10MB by 512KB but the earthlink speed is much MUCH slower. My latency must be horrible. Also when I perform speed checks the results vary tremedously. I did not have these problems with Road Runner when I paid twice the price. My guess is the Earthlink line must be saturated with too many users. Note Im in 11220. |

Im not sure if TWCNYC could physicaly decrease the bandwith on earthlink ips. Maybe it is possible but ive never thought of it. That would definitelly explain why my speeds are cruising at the rock solid 700/490kbs. |

I live in 11220 area and I was thinking about switching to Earthlink (I currently have Verizon DSL), but you all are making it sound horrible.
Should I switch? Is the problem during the evenings still occuring? |

What is your advertised speed? Also how is your download and upload at nights or during the day? thank you. |

this is at 8pm, same situation in queens. I don't think it's ever gonna change... |

The TW tech came today and changed the modem. The speeds are a little better now. Here is the test which i just did |
|
| |
I stayed around 8500-9600 (1062kbs - 1200) for downloads and uploads were stable at 58kbs even at peek hours during the night. This was with RoadRunner. I will post numbers at 8PM soon using Earthlink. |

this is almost 6 months and counting. If DSL wasn't also so crappy i would of switched. Theres really nothing i can do. So from what i gather, you think if i switch from earthlink to roadrunner, i might get better speeds? |

I'm in 11211. Absolutely horrible test results. Been noticing this for several weeks now. Can't play games, can't VPN to work, I'm switching immediately to something else. Earthlink used to be great in my area, but now they suck. I'm paying for 5Mbps service and getting this: Unacceptable. Basically, that's a dialup speed. I'm getting ripped off. Bye bye, Earthlink... |

I already switch from earthlink to new york connect and nothing changed. |

Beat this! Wow. I'm glad it isn't just me. The roadrunner sytem information has the NY area as "Red", with system-wide problems they are working on, but the problem started around 2/22. Seems like a long time, though I just started getting really bad problems this morning in Brooklyn (11205). |
|
| |
Wow, that is really really really really bad speeds. . By the way, lately the speed at night has been better these days. I been hitting 5000 kbps - 4000 kbps at night and upload is unchanged 488 kbps. I hope they fix it so that i can get at night at least 9000 kbps down. |

hehe lol. Ill beat your speed later ontonight after 6:30pm it gets really rough here in 11206. Here is my speed at 4:30pm and dont forget this is premium.. The reason is switched from EL to RR is so i can finally get some help from the national help desk and level3 tech. Premium is getting downgraded as soon as they fix my issue (if they do). |

This information doesn't surprise me one bit. All of these 10/1 or even higher bandwidth speeds upgrades are sucking the life out of TWC's servers and lines. They can't handle it once it comes to everyone being online, if this continues, TWC will have a hard time competing with FiOS where necessary and if people who don't have FiOS competition are getting those speeds as well, then TWC will also have money problems as they will need to get money to buy new equipment to support the speeds they promised customers would have. |
|
| |
They should've upgraded their lines BEFORE they decided to offer free upgrades. These are free nightmares imo. |
|
| |
My point exactly. I couldn't agree with you more. |

Maybe we should all call in and try to downgrade our service to the retention tier? |
