Tried several different DNS providers:
Comcast's
MyCompany's
opendns.com
ATT/SBC's

Cable modem status page says everything is good.

It's not purely limited to DNS, you can be surfing the same website, for example www.cnn.com (once you've gone there once the DNS record is cached, it won't be looked up again untill you open and close your browser) yet you click arround on cnn.com (or any other website) and frequently get "page cannot be displayed" - go back, wait a few, click the same link, and it works fine.

Internesting that a continuous ping to my datacenter has no problems - all less than 20ms

Same here in southwestern Michigan.....I just changed to a different DNS server on my router and it resolves fine now....must be something with Comcasts DNS....
