Mele20 posted : Ping Plotter is outstanding...I got it right after I got RR in June 2001 on the advice of friends here who had it and said Oceanic TW tended to listen to their speed problems better when they had run a ping to a site for several days and amassed much more information than one tracert could show. Years later, I was a beta tester for the Pro version. Support is excellent and there is a wealth now of information at the site that is useful when determining problems. Sorry for not providing a link...I was in a hurry to leave.
mikewic posted : I called them and of course they played the game. the guy in Canada first level guy was awesome, it's f#$#ckin habib(insert generic non-english speaking person who can't understand what you say and vise versa here) that's the next level that made every effort NOT to do his job. It wasn't until we spend over an hr attempting to run tests and traces and other things did he finally agree to discuss with me the issues. then after 10 min he stated he can't do anything to the "server" that controls my area and that looked to be the issue. (I'd like to pummel him personally)
First off lets get 1 thing straight. It's not the server, they have a NODE or Base trunk in my direct area having issues. when ever you do a tracert to anything one of the pings from thart ip always times out, and it causes every other ip inside the RR lan to time out once too. Then ocne i get out of RR's lan network and actually get in top the WAN (real www outside of RR's network) I actually get no ping time outs. Go figure. it wasn't until we did several ping and trace routes that he also believed me.

if you can;t tell, I'm extremely hacked off at RR. comcast always fixed everything asap, and took are of me. RR doesn't. they slack off in doing their job (upper level support) and treat you as if your a liar and idiot until you prove them they are wrong. then they pawn you off to someone else.

I know i have other options, and I'm looking into exercising them. I'm talking to 3 other ISP's n my vicinity who can provide me with a decent clean connection, but before i do that, I want to see what RR does.

Mele20 posted : Of course, you should call them and ignore the idiots in this thread. My post wasn't helpful either and I apologize for that.

Your area may simply be having a temporary problem or there may be something wrong at your end that needs TW to come out.

Your post was vague though. How long have you had RR? How long have you had 10ms down and have you ever gotten above 7-8ms down? Have you tweaked your connection using the tools here? Have you done any traceroutes or pings to see if you can tell where the problem may lay? Do you have a tool like Ping Plotter? What speed tests are you using? Or is this speed you are getting determined by downloading a large file? You didn't give us many clues in case your problem is not just a temporary one for many in your area which, if that is the case, RR should already be aware of it and working on fixing it.

edit to add that I don't know anything about your division. Some are better at fixing problems. Some divisions you have to practically threaten to get them to do anything but generally if your problem is not unique to your connection but affecting others RR will be trying to fix it. If it is unique to your connection or even just those on your node if no one calls RR won't know there is a problem. Are your neighbors on RR and are they having a problem? Have they called? You'll get someone faster if three people in your area call rather than one.
--
"If you want to do DRM on a PC then you need to treat the user as the enemy."
mikewic posted : I paid for 10 meg down and 1 meg up. I currently the last 4 days that I have had this am only getting 2-3 meg average down and 700-800k up. sometimes it bursts up to 6-8meg down, but never the 10meg I'm paying for. Anyoen else having the same issues?
