Did I just waste a bunch of money on Teksavvy/DSL?

I'm switching from Rogers to Teksavvy. I bought a DSL modem from ebay for $40, and signed up with teksavvy for the premium dry DSL internet service.

Since it's dry DSL I don't have a phone number to input on Bell's site to see what level of service I can receive.

I'm in an apartment building so I figured I'd try the office's number. Bell identified it as a business #, as expected, but said it was only eligible for DSL basic.

If I can't get 3Mbps+, then I'm gonna stick with Rogers. How much money did I just waste?

My service is supposed to start Feb. 28, I guess I'll wait and see, but should I panic?

How about a neighbour's number?

No need to panic. As suggested, try a neighbour's number to see. However, the fact that another number in the building is only eligible for basic that is not a good sign.

I think there's an ad for kittens in the laundry room that a tenant put up. I'll check that # out when I get home.

Give Teksavvy your address and they can run your address to see what it qualifies for....

According to them, I'm a business. Which is weird since I live in a 6 story apartment complex. They also said that they can only tell if I'm eligible for DSl, but not at what speed.

Oh.. weird. Ok, this must be a screwup in Bell's database then.... sorry, normally you can tell by address OR phone number..;)

Hey;

What I did was use canada411.ca and did a reverse number lookup using my address. Randomly picked someone from my condo complex and used their number to check bell.

im sure someone from Teksavvy will help you, or you could PM them. It's much better to talk to a person (on phone or on board) rather than using a website to determine things.

Edit: Why not give them a call?

Thanks for the help! That reverse lookup worked great, and it seems as though high speed ultra is available

I also talked to teksavvy and they said that they won't be able to tell what speed I am at until a week after activation.

I'm pumped!

That's the downside of not having access to the line stats ahead of being in control of the lines.... riding blind. But by the same token, it's good protection against anyone being abusive... So until we pay for the service we can't see it.

I'm up and running, and my download speed is ~1 Mbps, and up is ~320 kbps. A bit disappointed

Is there anything that Teksavvy can do? When I called support yesterday, they said it would take a week after activation before teksasvvy can do tests.

In which part of Nepean are you? I'm around Greenbank and Craig Henry, and get about 1.5 Mbps. That's because there doesn't seem to be a remote in the area, and the 4 closest COs are 5, 5, 8 and 12 Km (North, East, South and West) away respectively from my place.

I did a lookup of the CO that serves my exchange (613-820) and it's only 3.4 km away. I don't live in Nepean anymore, I live in the Lincoln Fields area.

Lincoln Fields must be served by the Britannia CO. Still a fair distance.
