<description><![CDATA[anon posted : Whats amazing is that OOL has no clue about the rwin settings. <br>The onsite technician that showed up thought since I was splitting my cable line to my slingbox that was the issue, although I assured him the modem was in the -10 to +10 range so I should be fine.  <br><br>The people on the phone were the ones telling me to do the FTP test and that the 2 MB/s speed should be 20+ MB/s.  An earlier post made me realize that 2 MB/s is about 16 Mb/s.  This was after I told the tech I was getting about 16 Mb/s on the OOL online test.  He said those results are not as good as the FTP test.  <br><br>Why does OOL support now know this stuff??<br><br>Anyway, like I said, all is resolved now.]]></description>

My laptop now gets 26/4.5 consistently when connected directly to router.  GOOD.<br><br>Now, reconnect Netgeat WPNT834 router.<br><br>My main P4 computer gets 10/4.5.  JUNK.<br>I then took my laptop and connected it to the router, 26/4.5.<br><br>What gives?  My main pPC is a P4, my laptop is really a piece of junk.  I did tweak test on my main PC. They made me run a FTP test where I was seeing 1 Mb/s DL through my router and 2 Mb/s directly from my cable modem.  They said to not even bother with the Speakeasy and OOL test.<br><br>The tech said I should be seeing 20-22 Mb/s on that FTP download and I am seeing 2 Mb/s.  Nothing more we could do on the phone so they are sending a tech out tomorrow.<br><br>Not sure what this all means in retrospect and why the online speed tests show food results, but the FTP tests shows horrible results.<br><br>Not really looking for any advice unless someone has had a similar situation.  The Netgear WPN834 is on the Boost approved list of routers.  Perhaps it's my cable modem.]]></description>

It's silly to argue with Jaa and Geek or myself as we know the facts, often better than the tech support people. And it's <B>unfair and even cruel</B> to post misleading information in reply to request for info from new users.<br><br>You and I know damn well Boost doesn't have any more problems working behind a router than any other similar speed service. You need to have enough router RAM and horsepower. Firmware plays a huge part.<br><br>Another thing. You're giving people very little credit. My next door neighbor who knows ZERO about computers was able to upgrade his router firmware on his own by calling Netgear. People aren't as helpless as you believe. <br><br>Many simply DONT CARE about the difference between "optimal  super-tweaked" and "it works, thats fine for me". <br><br>I hope you take this post seriously, it's not meant to berate or anything like it.
