The people on the phone were the ones telling me to do the FTP test and that the 2 MB/s speed should be 20+ MB/s. An earlier post made me realize that 2 MB/s is about 16 Mb/s. This was after I told the tech I was getting about 16 Mb/s on the OOL online test. He said those results are not as good as the FTP test.

Why does OOL support now know this stuff??

OOL sent out a rep. We made a direct line from the first splitter to my cable modem. My laptop now gets 26/4.5 consistently when connected directly to router. GOOD.

Now, reconnect Netgeat WPNT834 router.

My main P4 computer gets 10/4.5. JUNK.
I then took my laptop and connected it to the router, 26/4.5.

What gives? My main pPC is a P4, my laptop is really a piece of junk. I did tweak test on my main PC. Also, I tested it on various other machines and got near 10/4.5.

Are you sure it was 2 megabits and not 2 megaBYTES. FTP is normally reported in Bytes. 2 MBytes = 16.3 megabits/sec

Sure , that's understandable. But wasn't this a year ago if not more? Time to maybe let it go?

But as far as I can tell, today, you're doing fine with Verizon ADSL and will soon have FIOS in Netcong.

Whch leads me to believe that you're happy with your ISP and your internet connection. As far as other services, I believe you have Satellite but could be wrong.

Which again leads me to the question. Even if they weren't up front with you or treated you poorly (and I had this experience several times too and still have an apology letter from Cablevision courtesy of Wilt to prove it), the fact is you no longer have a business relationship with Cablevision, which is the ultimate goal when you're disappointed by a company providing a service.

Which yet again brings us down the road of isn't 1, 1.5 or however many years it's been enough time to work it out of your system? Or do you plan on being here for the duration of Cablevision's existence? In which case I'm sorry to say they will probably outlive you (and most of us.)

See what I'm trying to get at? It's silly to argue with Jaa and Geek or myself as we know the facts, often better than the tech support people. And it's unfair and even cruel to post misleading information in reply to request for info from new users.

You and I know damn well Boost doesn't have any more problems working behind a router than any other similar speed service. You need to have enough router RAM and horsepower. Firmware plays a huge part.

Another thing. You're giving people very little credit. My next door neighbor who knows ZERO about computers was able to upgrade his router firmware on his own by calling Netgear. People aren't as helpless as you believe.

Many simply DONT CARE about the difference between "optimal super-tweaked" and "it works, thats fine for me".

I hope you take this post seriously, it's not meant to berate or anything like it. I'm hoping that you will reconsider what is truly important to you.

To me, it is far more important to spend an hour with my six year old daughter than to spend an hour lambashing some multi-billion dollar company on an internet forum.
