Rick..i don't know what your smoking but..to fill you in on something.

U verse DOES NOT bring faster interent speeds, only thing it does bring is IPTV.

I believe U-Verse users still see 6mbit lines for interent.

I just wish FiOs would come to Chicago, so Comcast ups their speeds to compete.

But since Verizon is to damn dumb it will probably be 2020 before we see that happening..

Re: HA

Uverse would bring faster internet speeds to many people who are currently only served by lower dsl speeds.

But my main point is that at&t wants to come in and what I view as contaminate many cities and towns across their service region with this huge boxes to do what?
Deliver us TV service that we can already get from other sources and slower hsi speeds than we already have with comcast and others?

It just shouldn't be allowed.

I am not against competition but that's not what this is.
And, to do it at the expense of creating eyesores and potentially devaluing our residences is really asking too much.

Re: HA

The RT and their placement is no where near the level of eyesore that they're made out to be. I can take pictures of dozens of RT sites where they're not a eyesore in the least.

HFX uses cabinets too and they're not always in the prettiest of locations. Hell, electrical transformers are the antithesis of feng shui.

Re: HA

But the law that at&t is pushing would allow them to place boxes anywhere, homeowners be damned. THAT is the major issue with a lot of people. I would not care if they could deliver using existing infrastructure, but they need to deploy a great many more RTs.

The real benefits are for them to offer IPTV and lock out competitors from offering DSL. Unless it has changed, IIRC, Covad and the like could not offer you DSL service if you were serviced by an RT because there was "no room for competitors equipment". Granted, at&t and the lot have drive most competitors out of business already.

Re: HA

Right of way laws already allow them to place them anywhere. The VRAD is a DSLAM. If there is a right of way, AT&T can place one there as is. There's no restriction now demanding a special right of way.

'The real benefits are for them to offer IPTV and lock out competitors from offering DSL.'

And they can place the DSLAM there, offer no IPTV service, and the same thing happens. A DSLAM is a DSLAM. IPTV is just a special type of IP traffic across it.

Maybe your just too dumb to realize that Verizon does not cover Chicago and it will never be offering FIOS there. You may see FTTP deployed there, but it would have to be through the ILEC that serves the area..which is AT&T.
