Re: VOIP on PDA, wifi, GPRS, EDGE. how is it?GPRS too slow; EDGE ok theoretically for low bandwidth codec, but still too slow, plus latency is around 800mS and is quite awkward to talk and listen. You need at least 3G or 3.5G like UMTS or HSDPA or Ev-DO, but still latency is not very good.
True broadband to WiFi might be the only realistic solution. I have tried some of the above myself and speak from 1st hand experience. |

thanks guys...welll the story here is I am in Thailand trying to use skype on my o2 atom life... 620 mhz...seems even on wifi the other person can not hear me clearly, seems the phone is workiing like a speaker phone when I use skipe and calls are put on the smal speaker and the ear pieace. I hear the other person great and in a place where thier is little noise the person I am talking to can hear me fine....well I think this is NOT a bandwith issue since it does the same form my home wifie with 512 up, vonage, packet8, work fine.......I am useing an older version of skype 1. something. the 2.0 version seems to not have support for my moble device....any way to get vonage on my o2 atom PDA......the NO caller ID on skype sucks |

Yes try Fring you can configure it to use SIP...and if your Vonage supports softphones then you can configure it on Fring...if not then you can use any of the other BYOD providers. |

First of all you want to know if it works on GPRS or EDGE, and now you said you are on WiFi and it's not a bandwidth issue. Very few softphones made for WM 6 or 5 so far I know of only one but never heard any reports on it.
Why don't you use a bluetooth or wired headset with mic so you can get better audio and reduce echo (or the need to echo cancellation)? And I don't know why you don't have Caller ID on Skype.
You might want to get a Windows Mobile 2003 or a Palm device or better, a WiFi SIP phone or a WiFi Skype phone instead. |

Hi I am also in Bangkok and use Vonage with my E90 but only works the best when on a WiFi connection. All E-Series Nokia phones have a built-in SIP which works with Vonage (a softphone account is needed though).
Cheers,
