MadDog3057 posted :
said by »www.wireless.att.com/lea ··· erms.jsp :

WI-FI CONNECT: Wi-Fi Connect available only with activation of an eligible DataConnect plan. Compatible Wi-Fi device with installation of AT&T Communication Manager software required to access AT&T Wi-Fi service. Wi-Fi Connect plans allow unlimited access (except as noted below) to AT&T Wi-Fi hotspots. Customers must pay applicable Wi-Fi access service fees directly to the Wi-Fi service provider for non-AT&T Wi-Fi hotspot usage. This agreement also can be viewed at www.AT&T.com/laptopconnect. Wireless 802.11b/g network interface card or a laptop/PDA enabled with 802.11 technology is required to access the Wi-Fi Service. Wi-Fi Service is not inherently secure. AT&T Wi-Fi Service is not part of the AT&T GSMTM /GPRS, EDGE or 3G networks and, therefore, does not have the encryption, authentication or other security features that may be available on those networks. Wireless communications can be intercepted by equipment and software designed for that purpose. AT&T strongly encourages and supports certain customer-provided security solutions, such as virtual private networks (VPNs), but does not provide these to its Wi-Fi users and is not responsible for their effectiveness. Wi-Fi Service is available only when it is within the operating range of the AT&T system or of an operator with which we have a roaming agreement. Wi-Fi Service access location lists and/or maps may be updated from time to time; actual service coverage, locations and quality may vary. To ensure that the Wi-Fi Service is not being used fraudulently, AT&T limits your usage of the Wi-Fi Service to 150 uses per month. If you do not use the AT&T Communication Manager software to connect to an AT&T network for 90 consecutive days, or if your license to use the software is otherwise terminated, you will not be able to access the Wi-Fi Service. Wi-Fi services requiring the use of credit card or other payment directly to the network provider are not part of AT&T's preferred network, if any, and additional charges will apply from the owner of such network.
I think that quote from the article sort of took it out of context. Here is the full paragraph from the at&t terms of service for the iPhone.
--
"The only thing that’s worse than being blind is having sight but no vision."

"Nothing is impossible, you just don't have the technology or the knowledge to do it"

realism1 posted : Yeah, a lot of it is old news....and a lot of it isn't even valid, like the cost totals for owning one, etc. My car would cost a lot more than it did, if the sticker price included all the gas it was going to need over it's lifetime in order to run....or all the taxpayer money that is used to fix roads and such.

As far as the WiFi thing goes, I hope it's not a setting on the phone that will actually disable it once it reaches the 150 mark. I imagine people would be flaming about it if it was in there, as I'm sure many have passed that mark already.

HiVolt posted : Hahah that's hilarious. And what exactly does AT&T gonna do if you use your WiFi more than 150 times per month? Disable it on a $600 device for the rest of the month? I don't think so...
--
GO LEAFS GO!

The Dv8or posted : Most of this crap is old news, but the WiFi thing is interesting. Id be interested in reading the actual EULA. I also highly doubt that AT&T is going to enforce the WiFi usage thing.
--
You're so vain... I bet you think this post is about you.

[rant] iPhone User Agreement Fine Print

realism1 posted : I Saw this article linked over at Digg.

The article calls attention to some concerning clauses in the iPhone User Agreement. I really have a problem with the WiFi being limited to 150 uses per month...Many people will use the feature in their own homes regularly. I know I do.....several times a day. Why should I be limited on how often I can do that? And if you select your iPhone to automatically ask to join WiFi networks, does that mean as you come within range of a network, and the iPhone automatically joins, and then you leave the range of the network and it disconnects....Does that count as one use?

I'm elated with my iPhone right now, but I REALLY don't like a lot of the terms pointed out in the article.

That's what I get for not reading all the fine print.
