Activated new DSL, works great, though a few inquiries

bakacoriolis posted : When I had Bell, it was when their DSL was 1.5mb, and we had it 'upgraded' to 3mb a few years later. I've been with them since and their price tag was, well, pretty high for decent 3mb DSL.

I recently made the switch to TSI, and it's been great, the CSR's been top notch, at almost half the cost. The DSL is still at 3mb, assuming I'm too far or something. Even if the speed stays at 3mb, I'm fine with that, I'm in no rush to download anything, it's just that sharing internet with 2-3 others can get really slow if one does anything that uses 30-50kb/sec like streaming video. I would be ecstatic if 5mb would be available however.

So my questions are:

1. Is it possible to get 5mb in my area anytime soon(I guess I'll PM someone at TS with my info after they respond)? After reading the forums a bit, it seems to me Bell can do some sort of lines or telephone boxes outdoors, etc. to possibly improve the DSL speeds? Can the good people at TekSavvy talk to Bell and see if its possible?

2. Is it my modem/router? I'm using the 2wire 2700HG router/modem. I was using a SpeedStream 5200 from Bell(had it for, 3-4 years but recently switched to the 2wire. The sticker with the name and specs is all faded on the 5200, the ink melted from the heat apparently. I haven't tried using it for a few months, but I found the 2wire to be 20-30kb faster then using the SpeedStream modem and my Netgear router. Should I try buying/renting a modem from TSI to see if I have better results?

Here's some info about my connection:

DSL Line (Wire Pair): Line 1 (inner pair)
Protocol: G.DMT Annex A
Downstream Rate: 1312 kbps
Upstream Rate: 640 kbps
Channel: Fast
Current Noise Margin: 6.0 dB (Downstream), 8.0 dB (Upstream)
Current Attenuation: 63.0 dB (Downstream), 31.5 dB (Upstream)
Current Output Power: 15.9 dBm (Downstream), 11.9 dBm (Upstream)
DSLAM Vendor Information: Country: {0x0F} Vendor: {ALCB} Specific: {0x00}
PVC Info: 0/35

Area: North Western Kennedy Road/Steeles Aveenue in Markham

Modem: 2wire 2700 Router/Modem (The one from CanadaComputers for $25)

Thanks!
