New Viatalk 2-Line Account

I just got my Viatalk hardware and account information today.
Installation was painless.

The sheet I got with my hardware says:

Your New Phone Number is 1-xxx-xxx-3344
Your Fax Number is: 1-xxx-xxx-344T

How does one use that FAX number? I pluged my Fax machine in to Line 2 on the Hardware and I get a dial tone. How do I tell folks how to FAX to that number that Viatalk gave me?

Sounds like they just used the same form they send out for business customers (as the fax number is the second line they provide for business customers). In your case, your two lines both use your 1-xxx-xxx-3344 number. The "T" is a VT internal thing for authentication/line registration purposes.

Edit: VT should definitely change this welcome letter due to the new two-line offering (as that letter you received is confusing).

Is the password for the 2nd line the same as line 1 or do I need to submit a ticket an get the password for Christmas?

Not sure if they are the same password. You can always test on a softphone to find out. I would think they would be different. I'm also not sure VT will be willing to give out the password for the second line if it is a different password. Can't hurt to submit a ticket and ask, though. This is just not something I have asked VT about yet.

I have used X-Lite 3.0, SJPhone, and Express Talk. They are all good softphones, IMO. VT has configuration helps for X-Lite and SJPhone in their FAQ.

VT has your config info for these softphones on your web control panel page.

I must be reading it wrong, but one is 3344 and the other is 344T. If it was the same, wouldn't it be 334T ?

You were correct. I miss-typed. it is 334T.

I get a dial tone on Line2 with the FAX. The question is how does someone send to my FAX on line 2? Is "T" really just an "8" or something?

Thanks

They don't. They send it to your regular number, and you have to deal with setting the FAX to answer after x number of rings, just as if you had only one line.

I don't think there is, yet, any way to assign a virtual number to Line 2, but I believe they should, can, and will offer that feature at some point at some cost. Or not.
