You can record two at the same time. If you are watching live TV, you have to watch one of those two. You can also watch a previously recorded show while two are taping.

you should also check a very cool service they have to enhance your DVR experience. They call it Home Media DVR and basically allows you to stream recorded content from your main (DVR) box to another room where you can have one of the basic boxes. That makes my life very happy....kids in their rooms watching Diego and me watching my recorded CSI shows.
It also comes with a PC software that allows you to stream music and photos from the PC to the TV in your living room. My wife uses that software quite a lot with the kids. She is a picture freak and has slideshows running in the tv every time I get home.
The price is very decent and at least I don't have to buy another DVR box.

tks for reply. thought i was being misinformed. told me could watch live in living room while recording up to three other shows at same time. that's after he called verizon to confirm. have two vcrs now that do the same thing. would need two stbs plus two dvrs to match what we do now. too expensive just for a maybe better picture and possible billing problems. mightgo look at dvrs this weekend around here. tks again. frank.

We do a lot of recording at our house, especially when there are more than one thing we want to watch on at the same time. W currently have 2 VCRs and a DVD recorder, but we've never had a DVR before. I'm looking forward to that and the channels we couldn't get before, including some of the music channels, as music from the 60s and 70s is better than Rap, Metal etc, IMHO. Anyway, a multiroom DVR might be an answer to your problem. In the past we've used splitters, switches, extra cables, and A/V cables to split our cable signal several ways- straight to the TV, to the cable box then to the rear VCR inputs via an A/V cable while another cable hooks into the VCRs coax input. That way we could program in several basic channels to record plus a premium channel, such as Showtime, via the VCRs rear input (selecting line in 1 as the channel to record from). All that will be different with FIOS. I had heard that construction could delay a FIOS installation by a day or so, but the only construction anywhere near us is Washington Center Road and I-69 from Coldwater to Dupont. They say there are two seasons in Indiana- Winter and road construction. They are installing FIOS TV next week. From what I've read, all should go well. Mark F.
