BB21 posted :
said by bhoff77 :

A prior post was correct in that the DCT700 for FIOS will not get HD, PPV, and VOD, and has no channel guide. This is strange because that same box HAS all of this with my current cable co.

The DCT700 does not support HD (i.e. even with your current cable co., you don't have HD). The DCT700 can support VOD (over a QAM channel) and PPV (using the OOB return path to register the purchase). Verizon uses an IP stream for VOD and an IP return path for PPV purchases (both going through MoCA for the RF segment in your home). Since the DCT700 doesn't support MoCA, you don't get PPV or VOD with Verizon on the DCT700. Verizon could have put in a full channel guide (with listings for 14 days) but they would have had to do some extra work to send the guide data via the OOB (the normal Verizon QIP STBs get their guide data via IP over MoCA). They probably decided that it was not worth doing for the DCT70 STBs. It is not clear if they embedded the channel call letters in the guide binary (in which case you will need to get a guide update every time the channel line up changes) or if this is sent via a separate binary object, or the OOB. If someone with a Verizon DCT700 checks the CODE MODULES on the Motorola diagnostics page and lists what objects (and versions) are loaded on the DCT700, it should be fairly simple to tell how the channel call letters are getting to the DCT700.

anon posted : I just got off of 2 hours of calls to Verizon, of which they had me on hold for 20 minutes - really. I was doing live chat with them at the same time. The chat person said that they have the DCT700 and to call suppot. The support person said they do not have it and gave me over to sales to cancel the order (it was when I asked to cancel, that I experienced the 20 minute hold - go figure. The sales person said that they do indeed have it and sent me back to sales. The sales person then said that they do have it. After she tried to update my order, she found a notation that the DCT700 is COMMING to NJ, but not here yet.
So, I'd either have to put that huge box in the kitchen for a 7" TV or loose most of my channels in the kitchen. I'd also need to have another big eye soar box on our dresser in the BR (currently have a DCT700 there too). The only advantage was the internet speed. But, I'm never on my home computer anymore and don't do heavy downloads. Cable is fine for that.
So much for 30Mbps downloads. I wound up cancelling the install

Here's the full info about limited functionality of the DCT700 for FIOS:
A prior post was correct in that the DCT700 for FIOS will not get HD, PPV, and VOD, and has no channel guide. This is strange because that same box HAS all of this with my current cable co. (Comcast. Verizon charges $3.99/month for each, BUT you also need to have at least one standard size STB in your house to be able to get the smaller one anywhere.

I would imagine that if they get a few more lost triple play sales due to not yet having this cable box in NJ, that in a month or 2, they may get it.

Thanks to all for your help. I may look into just FIOS internet vs the whole package

anon posted : I thought about that. But then we'd have to leave the kitchen to change the channel and would be stuck watching the same show on 2 tv's. I even thought of trying to hide the new box in a kitchen cabinet, but the wiring would be tough.
Bottom line - I don't have HDTV yet, I have a cable modem for the internet and do not do heavy downloads or any internet gaming.
