Re: New CapYou talk about 1.5/128 not being that bad. No, it isn't. However, I've seen quite a few samples around me and not one of them has topped 800/80. that is (about) 1/2 of the cap down and 2/3 of the speed upload. THAT is unacceptable. We know they have the power to make it faster, it's not like dsl. We just got screwed over. |

And here in Sacramento most of us are downloading well below 300kbps. Most are below 100kbps.
Yesterday I was able to get around 800kbps, but then it rapidly went to 100kbps, then the download halted.
Try downloading two files at once....kills both downloads.
If you are downloading, forget about using your computer because your ablility to upload is near nothing. I haven't measured it, but it is bad enough to slow down resolving domains, sometimes to the point of getting "host not found" messages. Stop the download and you can browse again. I didn't have this problem with @home, so it has nothing to do with the cable architecture. That is a bunch of crap ATT is currently spitting out to their customers because they don't want people uploading and downloading at the same time. |

Here in dfw, I'm not getting near the 1.5 meg limit, only around 800k. I used to have 3.5 meg download speed. I only use the internet for an hour maybe during the weekdays if that, so I'm not one of the bandwidth hogs they are talking about, but when I do use it, It makes my limited usage much better. Now there is no difference between dsl and cable. [text was edited by author 2001-12-07 12:10:24] |
