Re: Xbox Live Lag *Boost Member*I can't do a trace route to anyone I know with OOL because they block it and they can't do a trace route to my OOL and we are both pingable. Also I can't do a path ping to any site using OOL but with my Fios it works fine.
This was happening before my connection messed up and I was saying every time I played on another OOL server EVERYONE lagged so it was the server and it is not just my area IT IS OOL. |

Can i ask you a serious question, Why are you still with OOL, when you have Fios? Seems like a big waste of money to me.. |

Makes it just fine to your UBR/CMTS which is the last hop before your computer/router. Something is improperly configured on your end. |

No man it isn't and this is the same issues I have with my friends in my neighborhood and in the bronx. Its a wrt-54g router so I doubt I miscongured anything at all. Its OOl blocking it and they block other stuff too like pathping as you can see below gets blocked by OOL on hop 6 and my fios works fine on the same PC.
Pathping with OOL is blocked at hop 6

My OOL connection is in the Bronx. It traceroutes just fine. Nothing is being blocked, even in your trace route. Hop 6 simply has ICMP responses turned off. That's normal and not any sign of "blocking" it. You're citing problems that don't exist. |

Then how come I can't finish the trace to my IP even though it is pingable ? It is being blocked by them and my friend lives in 10459 in the bronx and he has the same issue so what do you have to say about that ? Some area's have issues LOL Yea right !!!
You guys pretend to know alot but you know SHIT |
|
| |
Somebody's gettin' angry. uhoh...
Before you continue with the personal attacks, care to explain why 99% of the people on OOL have never complained about having their trace routes "blocked"? Only you and your "friends"? |

Because they never figured it out and I did and yea I am getting mad because you KNOW IT ALL people think this is an imaginary problem when it is not and I even provide proof and all the fanboys say oh my OOL is fine.
A trace route to my IP doesn't work on OOL and I can't do pathpings with my OOL and its always been like this. |

No it isn't look at the one under it done by my Fios and it goes all the way to speakeasy while OOL stops on hop 6 which is OOL. The only thing that doesn't work right on outbound is the pathping command and the only thing inbound is that the trace routes never go all the way and time out so I can't troubleshoot it at all. My speeds are a different story |

See.. It works perfectly fine. They're not blocking anything. Hop 7 timing out is no big deal. |

No I meant when doing a trace route to my IP 69.123.44.103 it never finishes and times out over and over.
Then try to do a pathping command to nyc.speakeasy.net and see if it goes all the way to nyc.speakeasy.net. My OOL didn't but my Fios did and OOL stopped on hop 6. |

Why does it work to some OOL IP's and not others is another weird question ?
Now if we could figure out the pathping that stops on hop 6 for OOL but not Fios

I've had boost and I had pingspikes with halo 3 in the beta. I moved out and still had opt online but downgraded to the standard service. I'm still getting pings spikes.
I called out the tech engineer and he changed all the splitters with new ones. I still had ping spikes with halo 3.
I believe that halo 3 sends it's informations at a certain rate and opt online some how is not compatible with that rate. Ping spikes aren't all the time; there random. I know I have my network setup correctly.
Whilst playing halo 3 and testing my pings on my pc I had ping spikes on the game, on the pc I had zero issues.
No other game do I have ping spikes accepts halo 3. |

The ping spikes in halo 3 are a halo 3 problem but halo 2 has no problems. Halo 2 used to be fine with Boost when it was 30/2 and got the red connection crap when it was pushed to 30/5. Its weird but thats what happened for me and my friends with Boost. |

what are trace routes? & how do I use one to test my connection?
Will it give me anymore info than a ping test in the command prompt? I've had boost and standard and there both bad for gaming even though the speeds appear very good.
I'm turning off my modem/router for a power cycle in the morning, because I think I've stressed the connection to much by opening 8 windows media players all at 3000kbps roughly. Now I'm just getting rediculous ping spikes all the time on games and when nobody is using the connection. |

Seriously? Why should there be any lag with so much bandwidth? |

Latency and Bandwidth are two different measurements. One is how much you can send in a period, the other is how quick every packets makes it to the destination. You can get a very short delay due to congestion anywhere in the line, but still be able to send a lot of packets in a full second, that is where a tracert comes in, it helps you figure out where the delay occurs. Here are a couple of tracert tools which are free and will also allow you to test your connection Ping Plotter (A Free Version is available) » www.pingplotter.com/Trout » www.foundstone.com/us/re ··· ools.asp |
