Wanted -Reviews of Wireless services around Kingston Ontario
My parents are currently stuck in the dial-up black hole that occurs in many rural parts of this fine country. Cable broadband isn't an option as it stops at the house before my parents and DSL I don't think will ever come to them. I have tried to get a straight answer from Bell as to when this will be available and for the past 3+ years, I was getting the 6 months answer. Well needless to say, my parents are frustrated and not happy with Bell for not providing an answer (they must have a long term business plan in place for the area) and for dragging them along for the past year at least. Currently there are 2 wireless (not satellite)services available to my parents, the first is Reztel (reztel.net) and Kingston Online Services (kos.net). What I am looking for is reviews of both those companies and services. I am looking for personal stories from customers with those companies. Particularly I am looking for information around speed, capping and throttling etc. Also how far you are away from the tower as this apparently effects the signal.
WTC Communications is another wireless ISP in the Kingston area. Depending on where your parents live, they might be able to service them. Here's a link to a map on their web site:
I can say I personally know Steve Cole (owner of KOS). I was roommates with him at one time. He does strive to run a good business. No personal experience with KOS though.
As for service, I have sent emails to both companies requesting further information etc, and KOS gets back to me either instantly or the next day. I have yet to get a reply for the emails sent to Reztel.
