A DVDrw drive can write, read and play both CD and DVD.
I have a DVDrw drive and it went bad.

I understand that...I was simply informing you that there is a CD laser and a DVD laser. So it's not uncommon for one or the other to stop working and the other one works just fine...as in your case.

Yes, I understand, no problem. Just wanted to clear any confusion. I appreciate all the help, really, thanks.

AFA any system or event ID errors, It did not occur to me to check, which would have been a good idea. I usually do, but when you have a frustrated PC owner breathing down your neck for you to come up with a solution, I forget to those details. "No good deed goes unpunished".
