Sky vs O2/Be for broadband

hi

I am due to move into new house in a few weeks.

It has a number of dsl ISPs available.

The house is already wired up to the hilt with Sky (from current owners).

I have narrowed the choice down to Be, O2 and Sky.

I know Be is supposed to be pretty good, but I think O2 (who own Be) are also supposed to be OK - and I get a reduction as I have O2 mobile contract.

Now my obvious temptation is to use Sky, as I can utilise the connections already in place. And get optional access to HD TV, which I've never had before (coming from Freeview).

What are Sky like (connection speed reliability, customer support, overall VFM etc.), compared to the other two ?

I'm unlikely to download more than a gig or 2 per month - but might like the flexibility to increase this at some point.

Regarding TV however, I'm used to Freeview and am not desperate to get 5 zillion channels of [censored]. I would probably not get much above the basic TV package, at least to start with.

thanks

Ring o2 and tell them that you are moving in to the new property in a few weeks. Say that you have a phone with them and have seen their 100 day money back guarantee offer on their site. However this is set to end at the end of March but as a goodwill gesture could they extend it for you? See here:
»broadband.o2.co.uk/guarantee.jsp
Its worth a go and they can only say no can't they?

Also you say:
"Now my obvious temptation is to use Sky, as I can utilize the connections already in place.
The problem with that is once the person in the house at present moves out Sky Broadband will be removed from the line. It has to be as the contract for broadband is with the house owner and not the house.
This means that the line "should" be free of any broadband service giving you the option to select who you want.

Have a look here to compare:
»www.thinkbroadband.com/i ··· =Compare
Also look at the ISP's individual forums on the above site to get an idea of how happy the present customers are with their service.

Just to add. Sky HD is a real eyeopener. There may not be many channels yet but more are being added all the time "there were two new ones added last week"

Have a look here too:
»www.avforums.com/forums/ ··· hp?f=261 this forum sometimes lists where good deals can be had for Sky HD. I got it last year for only £90 as the forum mentioned that Comet were doing a special. I rang Sky direct at the time and they quoted me over £200! even though I had been a Sky customer "on the full package" for seven years. Its crazy how Comet could offer a much cheaper price that Sky themselves.

Hope this all helps.

What about this though:

8MB broadband (with 40G limit, no problem for me), 4 packs of (admittedly mostly crap) TV channels and free weekend/eve UK calls for £24 a month.

Or 8MB O2 for £7.50 / 16MB for £15 per month.

If the Sky broadband service is OK (which I gather it is) then I am tempted to go Sky ...

OTOH, if it's really just the HD aspect I'm interested in, how much would O2 broadband plus Sky HD service cost me ?

But the free calls from Sky asre also tempting ...

Oh the confusion
